ah wow, this is such a great description! i started skating just yesterday and it's so hard to figure out how my form is without an in-person instructor. for now until i can justify the expense, your videos are really really helpful. i haven't seen anyone else describe the stride as just putting weight on your knee before. I'm going to have to try that mentality later during my next session. thanks for sharing man!!
Excellent demonstration here. I just bought some skates a few days ago and I get too much speed to handle with my stride. Stopping is hard for me because I think I am too afraid to fall still( no helmet yet but Ill be buying one soon)
I can't wait to give it a try try jhhaaayyy tomorrow I have a camera in front of my house and I can't get the stride right and I will try this tomorrow thank you for the lesson CHAYAH OHAVI I'll let you know
Maaaaann!!! I think you are the first person on RU-vid that I've watched that mention the knee pointing outward. No wonder my stride looks like my knees are tied together.
Yep. You're right, it's my problem, I've learned by myself and got that bad habit. Trying to show others how to avoid it. It became better recently but I'm still working on it.
You're talking about the stride performed on speed. The video talks about first steps. So there's no contradiction It has been already discussed here in the comments section.
Thank you! I've got the t-stop and two powerslide tutorials and also slalom turns ( curving downhill). Everything is here ru-vid.com/group/PLSBqI2RlrjB5LaO5dt7imGWsT6kWsyX8k
You're absolutely right, during the strides on the speed you should push to the sides with the pushing foot. But here I'm taking about the first steps and the position of the rolling foot that initiates the movement to the front. This is the base to form proper weight transfer, the way how you're loading your "springs". And to start moving you have to push back at the few first moves anyway. I've seen that misleading part before and been planning to make a separate video on proper push on speed. Now I understand that I really need to make this. Thanks for confirming my doubts.
I think it's good that you're encouraging people to think of the knee bend & the ankle position / edge, but try doing that with your back foot off the ground & you get nowhere. Your thrust is coming initially from your gluteus maximus & then your hip abductors as the thrusting leg moves more sidewards in your speed-maintaining stride.
I understand you, and you're right. This video is more aimed at the elimination of beginners mistakes than on tips how to get the speed and good push. I do really need to make another one where I will be talking about the second foot and it's function. That is also important of course. Thank you!
@@NikZvi indeed, and it's a helpful video. I was just out earlier after watching this, in the park near my house, concentrating on staying on the supporting skate & not pronating. I used to play ice hockey as a kid but it's been so long now, my muscle memory is completely gone! Bit of practice every day though, I'll be doing powerslides again :-)
You are to funny it made me forget the pain in my wrist from falling backwards with my left arm streched out. You do some great teaching thanks for the laughs and the knowledge
The majority of skaters I see don't seem to go round with a very long or fast stride. Don't know whether due to lack of confidence or don't want to go fast for fear of falling.
Unfortunately there are some skaters who don't really work to improve their stride, they could go for difficult tricks but their basics are terrible. But that's the choice of a person. Although I think to have a good stride is a very enjoyable thing.
@@NikZvi i saw multiple skaters out yesterday, all novices. None of them were trying to stride out. Instead they just wanted to waddle like Charlie Chaplin.
@@robertgiacomo2655 usual group sessions are like this. If you want something more interesting you have to look for some freeskate group meetings with more advanced skaters.
i’ve learned how to do one stride at a time but i struggle with repositioning myself while i’m skating (for example i’ll take one little stride then just roll around) i have trouble bending my needs after a stride. and i don’t go very far/fast, also i tend to go backwards a bit while bending my knee to do the 2nd stride. any tips?
Well. You can try to make it skating near the fence and holding it during time to time. Your main task here is to understand how your weight transfers from one foot to another. Also if someone will help you by skating need and holding your hand it will be very useful. Don't be in a hurry and try to feel all the process
@@NikZvi thank you lol i’ve watched so many videos and this is the only one that actually helped me. so i’ve learned how to stride very slowly but my rollerblades are squeaking a little bit while im rolling around, im not sure why though
Squeaking could have many reasons from bearings to cuff mountings. So it's better to check it by hands. Roll every will, move cuff while holding boot, try to move frame, holding boot, check buckles etc.
I recorded myself today and watched how I skated and my knees were funny, I was exactly as you described on your video of "how not to do it" I will practice your correct way in my garden. I am so used to the wrong way of doing it so I'm guessing it will take a while to break the habit
I've watched all of your videos! I'm loving them- fun yet informative! However, I haven't found one that'll teach me to stop as a complete new skater, the fall to my knees doesn't sound like a great idea and the ones you do look crazy scary 😂😂😂
@@NikZvi thankyou so much for your quick reply! 😍 I'll just keep going forward while I wait, I mean, stopping isnt really important when I'm learning to move 😂
