The mistakes you made is actually a blessing in disguise for people learning how to start an IV 👍👍👍
@katebetke

good job recognizing the mistakes. they blood leaking is likely due to the resistance pressure from the tourniquet when trying to push additional fluid in via the flush

How do you know if the needle has a stopper on it? With some needles they require pressure on the vein so blood doesnt come out; the one you used did need that cuz of the stopper.

Im thinking about going for a Surgical Tech certificate or an Xray tech . But I heard with surgical tech youd have to learn how to do an IV on yourself. I am sooo queasy with needles !!! I need to try to get over it but I heard it is very common at first!

You should turn the catheter but NOT pull it inside the needle you can cause an embolism
@bellaV_1989

You have to remove the tourniquet when the blood back flow 🤔

I love watching your videos however I noticed your cleaning method isn’t so correct. You’re only supposed to clean once. Circular motion from the center out and let air dry. That’s how I learned it and read in many textbooks.
@Jujubml
@Jujubml 5 лет назад
Ann Hmm that’s very interesting! Maybe the textbooks have changed lol, I was taught to clean for 15-30 seconds! Best practice guidelines always change 😅
@lpg1298
@lpg1298 3 года назад
Check your facility guidelines since they have recently changed. Best practice now is using friction. Zigzag method up down and then move from side to side. This is best practice in our hospital

I noticed right away the IV catheter was different than the ones the nurses used on me in the ER and urgent care! Wish they had those!

The BD Autoguard Angiocaths are definitely a step above some of the older/cheaper catheters, with the retracting needle, etc. They even make BDs with "blood control tech." where you don't have to hold tamponade as much or at all while hooking up a loop, etc.

You can do your IV insertion technique on my arm too. I have good veins on my arm. Unless, I have to put my numb cream stuff first and won't feel a flinch anymore. PS your gonna be my nurse and I'm your patient. Lol 😂 hahahaha!!! 💉💧👩‍⚕️
