This video shows how to use the XM Radio system wiring to install an AUX input to your car. This was done on a 2004 GMC Yukon, but should be able to be done any many similar vehicles with XM Radio capabilities. Let me know if you have any questions!

After cutting the 3 wires I expected silence when I turned on the radio, but instead it gave an annoying buzz. I clipped to the wires and played music but the buzz persisted. (Engine off) Anyone else experience this?

At 3:49 is would have been best to wire a switch that can toggle between XM and the AUX jack wiring so that you can keep both XM and AUX without bleeding. Also for anyone driving a yukon denali, you can get a compsite (red/white/yellow) wire to 3mm audio conversion cable and plug it into the TV in the back seat and set the TV to AUX and select RSE in the front by hitting the CD button twice. This way you can tap into the CAR AUX audio without any soldering or cutting.

I just finished doing this on my "03 Yukon Denali with Bose Stereo. The feedback from XM radio advertisement was much more than I could deal with. I tried just unhooking the connection from the XM module, but then my stereo would not go to the XM station. So instead, I cut the brown & green wires going back to the XM module(pink highlighted area in this video), and works perfect. If the next owner wants to get XM, it won't be that hard to revert this system back. Thank you Andres!

Great video!I was able to find a 3.5MM jack with the wires installed, used 3M Scotch-lok connectors and then disconnected the XM due to bleed through. Real easy.I'd suggest removing the trim before drilling any holes so nothing gets accidentally damaged behind the dash.

Hi Andreś, thank you so much for this video. In the past, I used those FM frequency things to get music from my iPhone or iPod, but since changing vehicles, none would work properly. By using your video, I was able to successfully install the 3.5 mm AUX plug (costing me a whopping $1.21 CDN!) connected through vehicle audio system using the XFM1 channel. Amazon had a great cable for device to vehicle that is Apple certified for $ 18 CAD. I even tried the liquid electrical tape you suggested, that’s great stuff too). Works great and sounds perfect - vehicle has a Bose sound system. The only modification I made was to cut the green and brown striped lines leading to the original vehicle XFM plug, attaching my new plug lines to these (so XFM won’t work, unless reconnected) and run a dedicated ground line to vehicle metal. Great results! Thank you! DS, Surrey, BC, Canada

I watched a handful of videos about this, but yours was the most descriptive and clear. Thank you! FYI, I had a lot of bleed so I just cut the XM wires. I don't use XM anyway. AND, I used hex nuts to connect the wires. The clam-like connected where the two wires lay next to each other and you use pliers to squeeze down the metal piece into them, thus creating a current. Also, a bit of a rig job, but the AUX input kept slipping in when I would put the 1/8" plug into it, so I pull out the little panel box and stuffed it with thick double-sided tape and now it stays in place when I plug in! Thanks again, Andres.

Phenomenal. Knew it was possible but needed the details. had to buy everything but the soldering iron, so it ran about $20 after buying the jack, the wire, the solder and the splices. 15 minutes later, works PERFECTLY. Tune to 0 on XM and you don't get bleed at any volume. Watched another guy's video first, but he spent most of the time with his hands in front of the wiring as he was splicing. Great of him to try, but wasn't much help. Diagrams, exact instructions and clear video. Really appreciate the effort.

Did this to my 03 GMC K2500. Works like a champ! The only things I did differently are I used those clamp down connectors to tap into the green/white and brown/white wires so I didn't have to risk dripping or melting something while soldering in my truck(today was the first time I ever used a solder gun). I also bolted the ground to the bare metal right behind the glove box. There is another vid on youtube that shows where to bolt the ground to.

Thanks for sharing that observation. I cut the 3 audio wires but get a distinct and annoying buzz (even with nothing attached and engine off) I'll reconnect XM and try again. I'll be quite happy, but curious why XM would not bleed through especially during quiet passages.

@PaulBhullarSingh , I cut the speaker wires and kept ground in tack, but we get bleed through. Turning up radio helped but I didn't want to hear any bleed through! I will try solder next as the clamping mechanism may not work? Plus, wondering what wire size is supposed to be used. Lastly, those 3.5 connectors need more threads as the plastic cover is too thick.
@PaulBhullarSingh
@PaulBhullarSingh 8 месяцев назад
SUCCESS after reconnecting the XM and tapping in! Yay. I disconnected the XM antenna to prevent bleed through (XM is silent), but I found that it may not even be necessary. I had a CD playing, but when I plugged in to AUX the CD audio muted and only music through AUX played. I knew that XM and CD share the same audio lines, but was surprised that the CD went mute.

That XM unit is your tuner right? Nice video and really good explanation but I want to suggest to the other guys that you can also install a single switch that cuts the aux ground or the tuner's ground in order to avoid that "radio on the back ground" which you were talking about. The ground radio cable to the middle of the switch and the tuner's ground and aux ground to the left and right pin of it ^^

I think to fix the XM bleeding mentioned in the video, simply tune to channel 0 ( the XM radio code) there's and nod no sound on that channel. Just a guess but I think this fix just might help people with XM bleeding problems.

Word of caution. Leave the black/white wire intact from the XM plug and use a clamp splicer on it. You can cut the two speaker wires if you don't want to use XM (this eliminates the XM bleed through). With my black/white ground wire cut, I had a terrible engine whine coming through that varied with RPM.
@kovang6075
@kovang6075 8 лет назад
Good to know this. I tried grounding the negative alone and had rpm noise. This combination I didn't try yet. if this doesn't hey rid of this noise I will Donnelly not recommend this procedure.

It's in the right rear quarter panel are, there is 2 sets of wires, one matches the lug that goes into the back of the radio and one is larger like yours. any time you tap into a wire that's already carrying another signal (in this case, the xm audio signal) it's a good idea to install a 12v diode on each wire to prevent back flow of signal to prevent the possibility of blowing an audio board by accidentally having both sources on at once.

Just want to say, I followed this to a degree... Instead of putting a port in my tahoe, I ran a shielded cable as a temporary patch until I get my aftermarket radio installed. And it works great... until I start the motor. That's when I start getting a popping signal interference in the sound. So this isn't necessarily a perfect fix. Since the cable itself is shielded, I am guessing the signal bleed is at the splice.
