Perhaps it's me, but I didn't think one was supposed to run romex in PVC, THHN only?
@SkillSavvyDIY
@SkillSavvyDIY 3 месяца назад
I addressed that very thing in the video. I said that it is against code to use Romex outside, even in conduit. It has been that way for many many years. It requires wire rated for outside such as UF-B cable and it has been swapped out to the correct cable since this video was released.
@dperreno
@dperreno 16 дней назад
Yes, he addressed that early at 4:15 and again at 16:20, said he was going to have to put a junction box in the attic and run the correct UFB cable from there down to the disconnect, but it was "a job for another day."

Its against NEC to use NM cable in conduit outdoors. That paper liner will wick moisture right back inside.

It’s been like that for many many years, so it’s not like I had to jump through hoops to get it changed out that same day, but just so you know it’s been replaced with UF-B just like I said I would do in the video. Have a nice day and thanks for the view. It really helps out!

Hello Rus, great video and well explained except for one thing I don’t understand. You installed a 60 amp disconnect on a unit using a 30 amp breaker. Can you explain that because from what I learned and been told is that a disconnect should be rated no higher than the breaker it is using.
@SkillSavvyDIY
@SkillSavvyDIY 2 месяца назад
Yes, you absolutely can use a 60 amp disconnect on a circuit as long as the circuit is protected with the proper breaker which is a 30 amp in my case. You can always go bigger but never smaller. My disconnect is not fused, since I have a 30 amp breaker at the panel, but some disconnects do have fuses. If you used a fused 60 amp disconnect, you would have to use 30 amp fuses in it to protect the wiring which is rated at 30 amps. Hope this makes sense to you. Thanks for watching.

Does code still require a disconnect if ac is installed within 6' of the breaker panel? I was under the impression that it isn't required. I ran 10-2 UF in conduit straight from my breaker to the unit. Thanks
@SkillSavvyDIY
@SkillSavvyDIY Месяц назад
The code states that a disconnect must be in sight from the condensing unit and readily accessible. Mine was neither of these but it is now.

Почему провода без запаса в коробке оставляете?

@user-qu4zl9rt7t 3 месяца назад
А если отгорит провод? А запаса жил нет
@SkillSavvyDIY
@SkillSavvyDIY 3 месяца назад
@@user-qu4zl9rt7t What if the wire burns out in the middle? If it did then new wire would have to be ran anyway. If it burned out at the connections then I left enough to take care of that. Our code does not require to use any more wire than needed to make the connections, even though I did use a few extra inches. The breaker is designed to protect the wire and prevent them from ever burning out. If you have made good tight connections and the proper size wire for the circuit then there should never be an issue. Only receptacle boxes require you to leave 6" of wire from where the wire enters the box, and this is not a receptacle box.

NEVER put connectors in mortar joints! They won't hold over time. You saw that when you took the pipe down.

Tapcons dig in very well in comparison to the original wall anchors that were originally used. The box it self was mounted to brick.
