www.electrical-online.com. Step-by-step instruction on how to wiring a ceiling fan with a remote control. Adding a ceiling fan to a room is a simple DIY wiring project, but the addition of a remote control to a ceiling fan adds a greater level of difficulty to the wiring. The Internet Electrician walks you through the additional steps of wiring and installing a ceiling fan with a remote. Here's a link to my new video on this same subject, but more details and far better video and sound quality. • How to Install a Ceili...

Looks great, and with a brighter bulb installed that’s all the light you need. ru-vid.comUgkxWF88GpljEn-0o34vtLFazEQ5h5Q33SjU As far as ease of installation- this was my first ceiling fan and it took about 3 hours because I had no idea what I was doing and also it’s helpful to have a second set of hands and a magnetic drill bit. Works great.

Yes, that's OK. Sometimes electronics need a power down to reset the brains, but that's not common or often at all, but if it does become necessary then you can accomplish that with the circuit breaker.

Having a hard time finding the code on the receiver to make sure it’s set properly, any advice on where exactly on the receiver the code is located to set it properly? Are the dip switches identical with the ones on the controller?? *Update* receive didn’t have a dip switch on my model, it’s older. Called customer service and found the sequence to pair remote. Power fan off, take battery out remote, power fan on, power remote on, point remote at receiver and press and release 3, then 2, then 1, worked like a charm.
@theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician Год назад
Not sure where it would be? It shouldn't be hidden anywhere that you need to remove screws to get at it? The dip switches should be identical on each, just look for indication as to what is up or on with each as sometimes it's hard to tell. I would just throw the question out on a search engine worded exactly how you would ask. "Where are the dip switches located on the receiver for a xxxxxx fan, model number xxxxxx"?

You're correct! I had to edit out the swearing and cursing. There is no secret trick to it. It's just a game of patience. The wires need to be routed correctly so they aren't in the way as the space for the receiver is just enough room for it, no wires running beside it. Thanks for watching!

So, you didn’t really ‘tuck all the wires up into the ceiling receptacle’. I’ve been trying to get all the wires into the receptacle in the ceiling; I even took the bracket down (very difficult with the canopy in the way) and tried to re-sit the wires and then the remote - but it’s IMPOSSIBLE. So I guess I really don’t have to get all the wires into the receptacle, just into the canopy. That’s good to know.

Hey Terry nice video! Another option for people who prefer to turn the lights on when they first walk in the room would be to connect the red wire from the ceiling to the blue wire that goes directly to your fan(this of course will not allow you remote to work for the light). It's hard to find the remote when your room is dark. Unless your really good at putting the remote by the door every time you leave the room :). Just my 2 cents though.

I have a beige wire coming from the ceiling, not a white wire. Is this the same as a white wire? The black wire was capped off from the ceiling light. There is no blue wire from the ceiling. And the Hunter ceiling fan has a black wire with a white stripes running down the black wire vs a white and black wire? Very different from anywhere else in the home which is the standard colored wires. (Black, White, Blue, Green & Copper/ground). Wall Switch is a duel, one for light one for the fan. I do know which is hot, light, etc. Just never seen this configuration, and can not find anywhere online.

Great video but please answer this. My remote controller has 1 green and 1 red wire coming off 1 side. Is the green a ground? and the red a hot that should go to black out of ceiling?
@redobrien77
@redobrien77 2 года назад
Very helpful. Can you clarify how many ground wires you would have in a situation like this, and where they are coming from? Obviously, you have the main ground coming from the ceiling, and then a ground wire screwed to the mounting bracket. I think there's a third ground, yes? I installed a remote-controlled ceiling fan last week and followed this exact procedure, but my LED lights are humming. I am not using a dimmer switch. Don't know what I did wrong, but I'm pretty sure the lights should not be humming. They hum whether the fan is on or off. It's not the fan motor that is humming, but the lights. Thanks!

There is no "cookie cutter" answer to that question (unfortunately). All you can do is get all your splices tucked up into the outlet box, make certain you don't have the wires coming off the remote won't be in the space where it is supposed to fit, and I find cursing and swearing helps, then you go away, calm down a little, and try again, and it will work out with patience! Thanks Terry but I would have liked a little more commentary/clarity regarding the switches. Maybe my room is typical in that it has a bank of four switches, one for canned lighting, one for a switched receptacle, one to control the light on a ceiling fan, and one to control the fan on a ceiling fan. Like you, I only used the one hot wire to power the fan but that's where I would like a little more clarity regarding the switches. I decided to use the third switch. I left the fourth switch as is. I capped the wire from the fourth switch at the fixture. What I'm wondering is whether or not a professional electrician would object to leaving the fourth switch hot. Perhaps they would prefer that I removed the pigtail to the fourth switch and cap off the wire that went from the fourth switch to the fixture. I didn't do this because it's more work but I've been wondering if a pro wouldn't approve of my methodology.

I like to tuck the receiver above the downward ball sitting in its little space in the mounting bracket then clip the wires to the exact same length as the receiver wires, wire nut them and then take a zip tie and bundle them together, this will keep them from going off in sporadic ways high or low and you will be able to put the canopy on a lot easier.

Yeah I figured it out. The box for the chandelier was not suitable for a fan. I had to get in there and cut it out. Then I used one of those fan rated boxes that you crank in, between the studs. It removed virtually all the wobble. I just had to add those weights to the fan blades and it didn't wobble at all. =D

So I tried wiring it a few different ways putting the the blue and black from receiver straight to power and ran all three whites to common. Then I was able to operate the fan from the remote but not there light. Not really sure what’s going on in my case maybe a bad receiver idk? Hi I have it installed and working fine for about 3 months now the remote can’t turn off the light it controls the fan and the speeds but not the light it stopped working. Any quick fix? I would hate to have to take it all down, thanks

Sounds like an electronics failure inside the receiver. If the good old “power off for a few minutes, then try again” doesn’t work, then the receiver needs to be replaced is my best guess

Hi there, I am upgrading my ceiling fan to a newer one with a remote control one. Question my old fan has 4 wires . The wires on the ceiling has 4 wires black, red , white and green. My newer fan wires has 3 wires black, white and green. I know that the black with black, white with white and Greens together. The red gets cap by capping the red will effect any other lights or switches? Please advise thank you sincerely Freddy.

Don't the wire connections need to be tucked up into the junction box rather than the canopy cover? I think that's the new code.

the fact the the wires like the hot and neutral are sticking out of the fan box break code or not ?

Hi there, thank you for your videos. I am hoping there is a way I can install a ceiling fan in my ceiling that has no drywall. My ceiling is only painted beams with a flattop roof so I have no crawlspace. I’m hoping there is a way to run the wiring on the outside of my wall somehow? I would greatly appreciate your advice, thank you advance.

Are you sure it is the box that is causing the wobble problem? The main two problems for c/fan wobble are that the ball on the end of the downrod is not sitting correctly in the ball bracket and secondly the screws attaching the blades to the arms and/or the screws attaching the arms to the fan body are not completely tightened. First lift the fan up a bit and ensure the small knobly bit sits firmly into the small slot on the bracket. Now, go around the fan blades and body. tighten all screws.

I have a Hunter fan that light doesn’t work on the or by the remote. I was going to replace the remote unit but it didn’t make sense that the light won’t work at all. The fan works from the pull chain but not the remote. Any suggestions before I replace the entire unit?
