Thanks for a great explanation, Terry. I changed out an old fan and installed a new fan and Universal remote. I have a two switch control on the wall. It didn't work, so after rechecking everything, I found your video. I eliminated the wall light switch and also found I needed to use the red power wire feed at the receiver instead of the black wire. Works perfectly now.

Not that it matters but Id like to mention to folks that they also make remote control kits that have the fan speed functions built into the remote, so you don't need the pull cord on the fan to change the fan speeds. Just trying to make this option known for people that may want this! Very helpful vid Terry!

@mygt8a4re
@mygt8a4re 7 лет назад
Lisa Wyndham heheh, sorry for your trouble on your fan speed. Is there not a chain/switch built onto the fan where you can adjust the speed? If the switch on the fan doesn't change the speed the switch in the fan is bad or it is wired wrong.
@easyrider4649

Thanks for letting everyone know that Justin. Why in the world would anyone buy one that doesnt let you control the fan speed ??? Kind of defeat the purpose of buying a remote if have to get up and pull the chain each time to change the speed..

Do they have a wireless kit that replaces the pull chains? I’ve seen the wireless kits that have fan speed control, but they all connect to main fan power and require the pull chain to be set to high speed. Was wondering if the pull chains could be bypassed entirely.

First I would like to thank you for your great videos! Now for my question.....With a ceiling fan/light fixture that is controlled with a remote, can the light switch at the door be used to turn on the light when you enter the room and then use the remote to turn off the light? I do have two switches that used to control the old fan motor and the light separately.

Thanks for the nice comment! Appreciated. Nothing will work until you power on that switch feeding the receiver. Then the remote will control everything so I guess the short answer is no.

I just installed the hunter 99770 with a FLUSH mounted fan like at 0:26 NO PROBLEM. No hums and runs smoothly. I had to take more apart (lighting assembly, blades, then that big shroud) but it still only took an hour. Before, I had 2 switches, one for the light, one for fan. I left the light switch at the door and hooked this up just to the fan. Now it runs all 3 speeds off the remote at the bed yay!

How about the pulling chain switch? You need to by pass it.
@theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician Год назад
With this remote, it is only an on-off control for the fan and the light, so you need to have the pull-chain for the light left on, and the pull-chain for the fan in whatever speed you would like it to run at, and the reverse switch in the position for how you want it to move air as well. Thanks for watching Victor!

Hello, Mr. Peterman. As a layman, I need to know what does it mean when you refer to the wires as in and out, and then while you were connecting the wires you mentioned a couple of times the word 3 wire cable when you only had two wires being clamped in the safety nut. Your response will be greatly appreciated.
@theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician 4 года назад
3-wire cable (+ ground=4) refers to a set of wires in a cable jacket commonly referred to as Romex, or Loomex. So a 3-wire cable will have a black, red, and white wire along with a bare ground wire. Does that answer your question?

Hi, thank you for the video. I just installed a similar fan remote. Is it possible for the switch to still operate the light as well as the remote? Can it be set up as some sort of 3 way?
@theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician 3 года назад
Probably possible to set it up as an either / or situation if you have the 3-wire feed to the outlet. Either the switch, or the remote to turn on the light, but wouldn't have 3-way type functionality where if you turned it on with the switch, couldn't turn off with the remote.

I have 2 Hunter ceiling fans WITH Hunter remotes (3 speeds + off and dimmer). The fans are about 5 years old but have not been working for the last year. One of them completely quit and the other the light turns on with the wall switch & I hear a click when I turn it on. I paid for a new lower housing to be sent from Hunter because they felt that this would surely fix the problem and it had simple instructions on how to plug in the new housing. IT DIDNT WORK. Still nothing on the totally broke fan/light. The lower unit I was sent appears to mainly a light kit unit (has three lights and the pull strings inside it for the fan and the light. It has a simple single plug to connect to the main body of the fan (which I guess has the fan motor). Nothing happened when I plugged it in. The other fan, the light works but not the fan so I'm not messing with it for now. I am wondering if the remote can go bad and not allow the fan to work? The remote also does not work with the one light that does work, I use the wall switch and the fan will click when I throw the switch. ANY ideas are appreciated as the fans were not that old when quit working. Does it sound like a motor problem or wiring problem. I have dual wall switches, one for the light and one for the motor. Thanks.

if you're not using a compact fluorescent light bulb aka. CFL bulb, the control thing turns off the dimmer for the unit. Which then makes it run at 190 instead of 220 and that can make it humm/buzz. If you're using a CFL bulb, the dimmer may be set to the low setting resulting in the same sound.
