When drilling fiberglass, starting the hole in reverse helps prevent cracking or burring around the hole!

I just bought this fish finder and am installing it now. Two things, that I think are huge misses by Garmin, is; first that the transducer mount is plastic. I added some decent flat washers ground on one side, for clearance, to tighten the transom bracket portion, as one screw pulled through the slot, and I was being careful not to over-tighten - but they have to be tight. Adding the washers solved that. Second, I can’t understand why they designed the transducer cable to come out of the transducer at an angle, to the rear of the transducer so you have to have the cable loop to the retention feature in the middle of the mounting bracket (which doesn’t do that great of a job holding it). With the installation of the transducer cable restraint clips, I was able to make this work out ok, BUT . . . It could/should be better than this - just sayin’. I do love Garmin fish finders, and this is my second one as my 1st went with my boat I sold.

You have some good points. Hopefully they will continue to improve their product. This is also my 2nd Garmin fishfinder- my other one was in a boat I sold as well. I’ve used this one a couple of times on the lake since I posted this video and I like the custom viewing screens. I have another brand fishfinder where the original plastic mount broke and I replaced with a metal mount upgrade. The Garmin has held up so far, but if it doesn’t hopefully they sell a metal bracket as well.

Word of warning. Those mounting screws are soft! I stripped the head of the port screw using my drill and had it set light but it still stripped. The screw was almost tight so I got away popping a snap ring in between the screw head and bracket.

sure you had the hole drilled deep enough and the screw didnt bottom out

@@davidricketts4384 yes same depth as other side. The stainless on those screws is soft. It be much better if the used a torx type head than phillips!

HI Brian i got the bracket on the boat today thanks for the heads up on those china made non magnetal screws could be made of of aluminum but anyways i went with phillips no 10x 1 inch long multi purpose screws and ground down half a flat washer to beef the plastic bracket up a bit.thanks again sir Dave
