Do you think you could run it to the battery as well as to say a internal battery system a la a Jackery battery system?

I’m sure you could with the right connections.

Great video! How is the solar panel holding up so far?

They did have a brief period for maybe a year or so (actually around the time that I got this panel) where they were having issues with delamination of the panel. But, I talked with them (which is how I learned about that) and they sent me a complete replacement panel and said they had figured out the issue and all new panels wouldn't have the problem. That was probably about a year ago. So, any new panels should be fine, but they were great to work with and with a couple pictures, they sent me out that replacement with no questions asked.

How has it held up?

I had some delamination of the panel so I reached out to them. They said they'd had a batch where the top layer was separating and they sent me out a new one for free. Pretty good customer service!

I’ve been looking at these for awhile, wrapped up in getting my Titan swap done before heading to MOORE expo

I just put one of these on my Taco and it’s been great. I used the wrap/sticker for mine. Double sided VHB similar to what you used and then I siliconed all the way around. I wanted to make sure that sucker wasn’t coming off unless I wanted it too. Haha. 😂
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding Год назад
Haha, yep, makes sense. I've heard about siliconing around it too and think it's a good idea. May do it here this summer when it's warm and dry.

I'm super interested in getting one of these for my Jeep! I think these are a great idea and seem well worth it for the price.

They are awesome and great peace of mind for keeping your starter battery topped off.

So at 3:44 I saw you have 2 separate connections on your battery that can be problematic. Those 2 posts on the top are fused connections right there at the terminal for your main fuse panel to the left and the other is for your (I believe) the PCM. If your attached accessory blows that fuse you are stuck real bad as they are not common fuses you can buy at AutoZone. You need to either replace the terminal with something that has multiple connection points separate from the OE Fused connections. Or you need to connect everything to the center post.

That’s awesome info and I’m no electrician so thanks!

I just went through the install process this morning for an f150... the site says VHB or Sikaflex and I went with Sikaflex. Appears to have been the wrong choice as the edges that need to contour dont have any immediate adhesion like the VHB tape would have provided. Its sitting right now with Bricks along the edges but I'm not sure its going to end up looking good. Cant take it off at this point ... most has set pretty good except the 2 curved edges that are giving me issues.
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding Год назад
That sucks. Hopefully they adhere and end up sticking down. I've seen people run a bead of RTV or similar along the edges to seal out liquid and it might help adhere it, but I have doubts that that would do much to prevent curling or it coming up. Just something I've seen.

Nice video and really like your podcast 👍 I’m getting mixed reviews on the Lensun panel. How is it holding up?
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding Год назад
Thanks a lot! Mine is still holding up pretty well, but I did see that Grant from Arkansas Offroad had his D laminate. He’s had his on for longer than me, but so far so good with mine.

Whats the difference between this and having dual battery with isolator. Cheaper running dual.battery with lead acid battery
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding 8 месяцев назад
I mean, having a dual battery or a single battery doesn't really have any bearing on this solar panel as it just charges whatever you hook it to. I have a dual battery set up and this panel charges both through the controller so it keeps my starter battery topped off and passes through my REDARC to the house battery as well. Just depends on whether you want to take advantage of some unused real estate to keep your battery or batteries topped off.

@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding Год назад
That's a great question. I'm honestly not sure. I just ignored them and went with the red and black like all solar I've ever done, :D. I even checked their website and there doesn't appear to be any info on what to do with those, so I just capped them off and ignored them.

I could probably grab it for you. I don't specifically see it on their site, but it's meant to fit the shape and contour of the 2nd gen Frontier hood well. Here's a link to their site for more info: bit.ly/3S97xMz

Fletch, I'm not sure if you've already mounted the CC to the final place. With mine I had to move it around a few times due to overheating while idling. What finally worked was to place the CC on the inside of the fender wall with the lights facing backwards (and wires front). The wires run down the side, inside the engine bay and out the front where they make a U turn to head into the fender well. I cut the fender liner to make a couple of flaps that I can use to see if/which lights are blinky-blinky steady on off etc.

I haven’t had any issues with it but I’ve got it on top of that fuse box. I like your idea though!

that was my first spot, then i tried to hide it from the heat by putting just in front of the battery. it all is a journey.

SO,,,,,I LIVE IN REDDING CALIFORNIA AND IT GETS REALLY HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WILL THIS THING FLY OFF OF MY HOOD AFTER THE GLUE STOPS GLUYING IN THE HOT AND COME OFF AT 70MPH??????? just sayin.
@AllThingsOverlanding

I mean, it’s possible. Mine is solid as a rock and I’m not worried about it, but if you’re in extreme conditions like that, it may not be a good option for you.

i live in Florida, you know the Sunshine State. my panel is Cascadia4x4 that comes VHB tape all around the edge. I must've done a bonehead thing and shorter the panel, whatever... it needed to come out for the free replacement Cascadia sent me. it took hours(!!!) to get that panel off the hood. I've decided that if a third panel is needed I'll just get a whole hood assembly :-) just seyin
@0oo0le
@0oo0le 6 месяцев назад
@@MauroMarzorati when removing the solar panel with tape, can that damage the hood paint?
@MauroMarzorati
@MauroMarzorati 6 месяцев назад
@@0oo0le maybe. but I called Cascadia and they advised me how to remove the panel, what they recommended I'd buy to scrape off the vhb tape, etc. I followed the guidance and did not have trouble. is that the only way :shrug: I don't know. Reminder that there's a vinyl shield Cascadia sells for the inside and the panel is only glued at the perimeter. Make no mistake removing the panel is fatal for the panel, but not the hood.
