Thanks so much for this! I just hung a 12x18 mirror, same brand you had, on a metal medicine cabinet door, so no backsplash to rest on. I cut a piece of cardboard the width of the door, 2” high, which was where I wanted to place the bottom of the mirror, and put it on the door with adhesive foam pads. I used Gorilla construction glue in the pattern you show, and placed the mirror on top of the cardboard - perfect. Then I goofed- while still holding the mirror, I pulled off the cardboard. A minute or so later I realized that the mirror had slid down about an inch! Luckily, because of you I was prepared with painters tape, so I quickly pushed it back up, put the cardboard back on, and used plenty of tape to keep it in place until tomorrow!

Can you say if the mirror is still stuck to the wall? I thought your supposed to remove the paint from the wall and prime first. Also I heard this adhesive ruins the back of the mirror, and shows up after installation.

@Omidion

Yeah, the "glue" can react to the back of the mirror and ruin it, so by adhesive that is for this specific use. Also it's always a good idea to make some "scratches" on the wall for better adhesion.

I want to remount a mirror that was previously removed. Should I remove the old glue from the back of the mirror, or just apply new glue between the old glue when mounting the mirror back on the wall?
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 2 года назад
You would be fine using the new glue on the back. However, if you can take off the old glue with a scraper razor blade, it's at least worth train in order to prepare the surface. However, I would personally trust using nail glue between the old glue one mounting the mirror back on the wall

I have a diy home improvement application. I am restoring a medicine cabinet where I disassembled and removed the rust and repainted my medicine cabinet. In the process of this project i damaged the hinge and had to replace it with a new piano hinge. My issue now is reattaching the hinge to the side that faces the mirror. I cannot find a method to fasten the mirror to the hinge as the clearance between the mirror and the back plate is very small. My thoughts is to remove the mirror from the back plate, rivet the back plate to the piano hinge and reattach the mirror to the back plate. Will this adhesive be an appropriate application to my issue?? And how would I go about removing the mirror from the back plate ? It looks like its adhere on with an adhesive. I have a heat gun and i am wondering if using heat works break its current bond.
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 4 года назад
I've been trying to put myself in your position on this. i think if I were you, I would go to the home improvement stores, and look at various cabinets to see how their hinges are installed. I always try not to re-invent the wheel. The biggest issue you will have is to not break the mirror. I personally wouldn't use glue. I like the rivet idea. I also like the heating up idea for taking the mirror off. OR...... I hate to say it, but sometimes, you just have to buy a new cabinet (sorry) .... I know exactly where you are coming from on this. I would be doing the same thing you're doing. sounds like we could hang out. Hope I helped you out some, Johnny.
@dannydee9919

@@PhilCrockett so earlier today I bit the bullet and went out and bought a new medicine cabinet, than I go on RU-vid and read your reply.... are you a pilsner type or a lager type? We should definitely hang out. Lol... BTW, they dont make medicine cabinet like they use to. Couldnt find a decent one made of metal that didnt cost an arm and a leg. Manufacturers of medicine cabinets have the audacity to make and sell cheapy flimsy plastic units. I ended up buying one made of wannabe wood which I am doubting its life span. I kept the old one and figured I would give it a shot when I feel like it.. hopefully I find a solution before my recently purchased medicine cabinet rots of moisture. In the meantime i can figure out how to accomplish what it takes to finish the project and at the same time, miter some wood and frame it so when I do need it I'll just pop it back in place, proving that everything eventually comes to a full circle.

I was about to hang several large, heavy bathroom mirrors over granite countertops with Loctite PL-530 and found that Loctite’s on-line instructions say not to use it on painted walls. When I took the mirrors down, they had been glued to painted walls and had been up for over 12 years. Of course, the wallboard paper came down in the spots behind the glue when I removed the mirrors as the glue was not about to release. But, it’s easy to patch wallboard. I’m concerned about Loctite’s instructions as all my walls are painted. Experience with this product on painted walls anyone?

Why would you cover so much of a mirror? This is great for do it yourself but should not be considered on a large scale. Mirrors have to be pulled down all the time and it seems that doing glue in a dice pattern would have been the correct method. More of a golf ball size as well. But maybe that's just when using a mastic glue. Never seen it done in 20 years like this.
