I followed your instructions and changed my radiator on my 1995 with help from my brother and it was so easy. Thank you. I even had to use the flat screwdriver to help open the clip on the right side. The left side clip was hard to open as well so we lifted up the radiator for easier access to the clip and got it undone.WOO!

Hi Net. Amazing job, as always. Thanks for your time and for sharing your knowledge. I have a technical question. radiator has 27 years and had a little leak But, I notice that my new radiator has both water brass outlets at the bottom, as yours in 10:18. You explain that is for automatic transmission cooler but, your Celica is manual transmission, right??? Mine also is manual transmission, so, the question is: When I will to install the new radiator, water will fall by those holes???? How you cover those water outlets when you had your old radiator installed??? Best regards!
@NetsGarage
@NetsGarage 2 года назад
Yes, I have a manual trans. The radiator that I took out of the car had been replaced at some point, and I don't believe it was the original factory radiator. Often times shops will replace with a 'universal' radiator that could be used for both manual or automatic transmissions, which is why you see that aux cooler hole in the video. Coolant was not leaking at that spot, nor did I have a cover over it. 🤔 So I'm assuming it comes plugged up, but let me consult someone who has knowledge of automatic transmissions and I'll get back to you. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel. Good luck with your radiator install. 😀🔧 I hope this helps.
@NetsGarage
@NetsGarage 2 года назад
I consulted with a professional and here's what I learned: "The aux only runs transmission fluid through it. There is no coolant that will escape through the ports. You can run an automatic radiator on a manual or automatic but you cannot run a manual trans radiator on an auto unless you run an auxiliary cooler, separately. Those holes do not need to be plugged for the radiator aux cooler as nothing is coming in or out. It's a small designated area of the rad that the ATF runs through." Now we've both learned something! Yay. 🤓 Happy wrenching!

Thanks Net. Job done yesterday with 100% sucess, thermostat included. As you said, there is no problem with the auto trans links. One useful advice about block coolant drain plug for 3SGE engines: The drain plug is in the left side, firewall side. Best regards Net.

I know there is a Mishimoto for the 5th GCs. Duel row radiator from my understanding though? Anyways great video none the less!
@NetsGarage
@NetsGarage 3 года назад
Yeah, there may be a different radiator for the 5th gen Celica's (depending on what engine it's running too). It's honestly not something I've looked into, and my knowledge of the 5gc's is limited. Glad you enjoyed the video anyway. 🙂

Just found your video, why did you install the Mishimoto Radiator? Did your engine heat up?
@NetsGarage
@NetsGarage Месяц назад
Hi! 👋🏻 My old radiator was cracked and leaking coolant. So I decided to upgrade to the Mishimoto performance radiator, which has a lifetime warranty!The factory radiator is plastic and the Mishimoto is aluminum, because of this the Mishi won’t crack as easily and it dissipates heat much more efficiently. Win. Win.
@lightswitch342
@lightswitch342 Месяц назад
@@NetsGarage I have a 97, and the engine temp would climb a little bit when at idle in traffic. Not enough that it will overheat, I am in Texas, and I noticed when we reach triple digits this summer it would occur. I will troubleshoot the fans first and all but the radiator looks pretty new when I bought it.
@AnnettesPerspective
@AnnettesPerspective Месяц назад
@@lightswitch342- The fans is a great place to start. The relay may have gone bad. Also, is your air conditioning on when this overheating occurs? If so, does turning the AC off fix the issue? It could be the AC fan relay isn’t turning on the fan, which the car would really need when you’re stopped and air isn’t moving through the radiator to cool the car.
@lightswitch342
@lightswitch342 Месяц назад
@@AnnettesPerspective yes that is what happens, is the ac fan on the passenger side?
@NetsGarage
@NetsGarage Месяц назад
@@lightswitch342 - Yes, the AC fan is on the passenger side. There is a black relay box under the hood next to the windshield washer fluid fill cap. Under the relay cover is a diagram, it'll say Fan 2 and Fan 3. I'm pretty sure Fan 2 is the one you'll want to replace for the issue you're having. I had this same exact thing happen to me on my '99 vert Celica on an incredibly hot day, and replacing that relay fixed my issue. Good luck! I hope this helps.

Hey thx for this video btw! But will this radiator fit on a 1.8 7a-fe engine?
@NetsGarage
@NetsGarage 8 месяцев назад
Hi! Thank you. 😊 Excellent question. So, I just looked into this for you. On the 7a engine, the lower radiator hose is in a different spot from where it is on the 5s and 3s engines. So it’s probably not the best option for you to get the Mishimoto radiator, unless you want to do some re-routing of the lower radiator hose. Next best option is stock, if Toyota has one, otherwise I’d check out Rock Auto and choose from their selection. There are differences depending on which transmission you have (auto or manual), so you’ll also want to take that into account. Good luck. 🍀

Love this video, I've owned my 98 GT for almost a year now, took it to get an alignment and was told I'd need to change out that radiator soon alongside with my leaking coolant reservoir, I have an AT sadly but I'm just getting the replacement radiator from Mishimoto so probably not shaving any fans, do I still need to run an auxiliary? Regardless, this has made the install process look a lot less daunting, thank you for making this!
@NetsGarage
@NetsGarage 2 года назад
Hello there! Because you have an automatic transmission you will need to run an auxiliary oil cooler, this is how automatic transmissions stay cool, and it's essential. Mishimoto makes those as well, if you'd like to buy one of theirs. Thank you for the feedback, I'm so glad you found this video useful! Good luck on your instal. 😀🔧

@@NetsGarage oh alright, even if I order the stock oe replacement radiator and not the performance one?
@NetsGarage
@NetsGarage 2 года назад
With the OEM radiator for an auto, there will be a spot so you can hook up the auto trans for cooling, and you wouldn't need the aux oil cooler. But if you go with the Mishimoto radiator, it does not come with this hook up, so you would need an aux oil cooler. Hope this helps. 🙂

Is this a universal radiator or specifically made for a 6gc?
@NetsGarage
@NetsGarage 3 года назад
Good Question: While Mishimoto makes lots of different radiators, this particular radiator was made specifically for the 6gc. (Even though you may have to shave a few bits to make it work.)
@shawnbenton6171

Do you have to remove the fans from the radiator before taking it out? Could you not just remove it all together and then once out of the car remove the fans?
@NetsGarage
@NetsGarage 3 года назад
Yes, you could remove the radiator & fans all in one piece if you'd like. In fact, I have friends who do it that way. And they reinstall it all in one piece as well. It's a matter of personal preference.

Its the same for the 7th Gen atm ? It does need an auxiliary transmission oil cooler ?
@NetsGarage
@NetsGarage 3 года назад
Hey Jonathan. The 7th gen Celica has a different engine & therefore runs a different radiator because the plumbing positioning is different. I've attached a link to the 7gc Mishi rad below. If you drive an automatic you will need to run an auxiliary transmission oil cooler as well. Hope that helps! 🙂 www.mishimoto.com/toyota-celica-performance-aluminum-radiator-00.html
