To kick off the new year, here is a video on how to replace the valve cover gasket on a 2.2L 5SFE engine. When I find a correct breather hose, I'll be sure to link it here for anyone that goes through the same issue as me shattering the hose.
If the breather hose going from the Valve Cover to the Air Hose snapped like mine did, you can go to any auto parts store and cut a heater hose to fix that. Don't blame yourself, time does that to rubber hoses. If you also broke that connector that goes into the air hose, and your local junkyard does not have Celicas in there, then you can go to a junkyard that has any 96-02 Camry with the 2.2L 5SFE Engine and then take the connector off of there. the connector is just slightly bigger, but enough to get the job done.

I recently replaced the valve cover gasket on my '97 Celica. My Haynes manual calls for 'snugging' up the four securing nuts. I have to agree, torque wrenches aren't always that accurate, and overtightening could lead to leaks down the line. I intend to check my valve cover for leaks on a regular basis, also to check the tightness of the four nuts every so often as I have heard stories of them working loose, in fact I noticed two of mine unscrewed a lot easier than the other two.

Really nice and easy videos to follow and look forward to doing the work on mine now, just been given a Gt convertible 1998 and putting it back to ordinal spec so these have been really handy. Many thanks for sharing. ;)

Thanks for checking up! I am well, just working 2 jobs for that car money and waiting for warmer weather to work on the cars! Don't worry, I'll post more this year and I'm hoping to improve the quality of the videos during this reflection period!

Thank you making these videos! Keep it up. I have a celica that leaks oil. I see oil closer to the passenger side...any idea which gasket has gone bad? I was thinking oil pump or oil pan but could it be this too? I want to say there's oil on the spark plug wires too?

It's hard to tell without looking, but I would say it could be oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket or it could even be power steering fluid! I mention the power steering fluid because both my power steering line and pump were leaking and it got on the belts and they were flinging power steering fluid everywhere! Very messy situation haha, but it gave the appearance of an oil leak!

Hey I have a question, I have a 1994 celica ST 1.8L I’m wondering about the mass air flow sensor, I can’t find info online about where it is. Is it incorporated into the air temperature sensor and not it’s own thing? Any help is welcomed

We have different engines, so I can't tell you for sure. Although on my engine, I'm pretty sure we don't have a MAF sensor. Just MAP and IAT sensors. Could be the same for yours 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I own a Celica GT 1994 and I was installing a cold air intake, I notice that their wasn’t any MAF either.

Can't you buy that size hose at orilley for the breather?

Just a fyi the torque spec is 33 foot pound instead of the 13-17
@ufixitauto5237
@ufixitauto5237 Год назад
I've read it's 33 ft lbs for OEM gasket and aftermarket is 17 ft lbs. All I know is that I have no leaks with my 17 ft lbs, but good call out nonetheless!
