Why an internal throttle you ask... Why not!? Taking your bike to the next level by adding a slick part like an internal throttle to your motorcycle will surely turn heads and separate your bike from the pack.
We know this job can seem a little overwhelming at times. It defiantly requires a little more planning and a lot more measuring than some of the other installations we have done in the past. But never fear, Timmy's got your back and walks you through you step by step, making sure that you will have one killer looking set of handlebars by the end of this video. you kind of followed the design of the original HD internal throttle from the 60s. they used rigid solid "piano wire" that has no spring return. love that dead man throttle on my 71 flh

Did this a few times. Word to the wise- get good bars that are already set up for internal wire. My go-to has always been Carlini. Once... we tried to do a clutch the same. That did not work....

YEP road trip, COLD or RAINY, NO place except the side of the road, BEST to make TWO of those cables at the same time, imagine trying to fool with those small screws on the side of the road, wind blowing, cold, & GOD forbid you left the allen wrenches & other tools for this at home OR you drop the allen wrench or screws into the grass, maybe take additional screws & allen in a medicine bottle in the tool kit@@slgarra3985

There’s a cable cutting tool used for bicycle cables and housings. The jaws wrap around during the cut. Bend the housing when cutting and the cutters will cut cleanly. Grind off any burrs.

A solid wire, rather than a stranded cable is what was used on the old Harleys 1973 and earlier. A solid wire positively pushes as well as pulls and no return spring was used.

great vid, however it seems like there could be directions on the measurements when trying to feed the wire into the housing cause thats gonna be standard reguardless of the bars or how long the your throttle cable is gonna be

the measurement on the housing is standard but the measurement to your carb is not, its based on handlebars. hence you have to figure measurement from carb to where the throttle mount.

I am also interested in finding someone reputable to do some welding on the heads of my 57 FL . I have cracks inside the heads at the spark plug ports and the valve seats. Any suggestions? Thanks

Does this throttle application allow 100% range of throttle? Just had mine done and the shop that installed it here in Sweden said that the throttle body is normal to only open about 70% with this setup. Seems pretty fckd up to me. When I asked them about it they said ”Well how often do you really go full throttle? We never” while I was thinking to myself that I go full throttle almost every ride… Need some help and advice on potential tweaks. Setup seems to be kind of the exact same one on mine. Cheers guys

No but, they do make twist clutch and will work with a different cable.

What about the idle cable ? Your just running one cable to the carb and it works like that ? I want to do the same to mine but I was under the assumption you have to run two cables (throttle and idle) .

you can run it with one cable but if your throttle gets stuck you better roll it forward yourself. CV carbs have a pretty good spring back to them. but you do run the risk.

LOL, NO bike, had one & this looks like a GREAT idea, maybe a liability also, was it designed with a fail safe so it won't hang on full throttle or anywhere that the operator could lose control etc.

You would have to find a y split cable with adjusters on the bottom for both cables, the throttle itself can only hold one cable.

It's not about hiding only half of the cable it's about getting rid of the ugly, bulky eye sore throttle mechanism on the bars.

yeah be a full custom bar if so, totally doable just have to start from scratch with and you can use a lot of the same steps

So what's the twist range on that internal throttle tube? does it turn as far as a stock Harley twist grip or is it more like a quarter turn throttle tube?

This one has a short twist to it, more like a quarter turn. different styles vary but this ones pretty neat!

This one is specific to 1" handlebars, there are some companies that make 7/8" but you are going to have to use the google machine to find them. sorry we couldn't be more help.

Get a splitter, that attaches to end end of your cable and pulls two cables.
