Holy crappers! You rock! I watched so many other of the videos on this subject and confusion! Your demonstration is visually clear, instructively clear, and edited so well. Thank you!
You are AWESOME! You are a woman and fixing stuff and explaining it so another woman can understand. I'm going to the home store to get my switch and I'll try this. Wish me luck.
Make sure you turn off the power at the fuse box and not at the light switch in case someone comes in the room while you are doing this project and flips the light switch.
Hooray! We just fixed ours (after months of saying we need an electrician)!! Thanks for the encouragement to DIY it! (And yes, we turned off the power at the breaker!)
Oh boy please mention to flip the breaker lol. Very good video, awesome you did it yourself. Some of the newer fans actually have a plug so you dont have to deal with the live power, but its always best even when un-attachting the plug to kill the power.
Thank-You!!! I fixed mine also :) My biggest problem wound up being the wire stripping. I bought a multi tool wire stripper that did nothing, the power was off anyway so I just carefully used scissors. It was a challenging balancing act getting the light fixture screwed back into the ceiling fan but it's finally done 😁😁😁
Great video, however, I think you rushed through what you did with the blue wire that you clipped off to seperate the old switch. If I understood you correctly, you connected it to the new black wire at 3:34 and covered it with a nut. But still a great video.
Thank-You so much for making this video! It is a huge help, of course it is not the only video I have watched. I feel sad to see all the breaker comments. my question is about which wire to attach to which wire? Perhaps it doesn't matter?
I joined the wires going to the switch together, threw the switch away, re-assembled the fan and screwed a switch pull chain into the bulb socket. Never have to take it apart again.
My chain is long but somehow it pulled out from the base of the fan when I wanted to adjust the fan setting before bed. Tried to take the base off but the wires are so thick with that black piece, it take two people to hold the fan to get the holes to light of to screw back together. We have to get our neighborhood handy man/carpenter to fix it. $$. Should be so simple to do but it’s not. Shouldn’t have clip anything.
I am all for doing my own repair work but this women left one very important piece of information out. TURN OFF THE Electric POWER AT THE FUSE BOX BEFORE YOU FIX THE CHAIN!!!!!! This is a simple one that all professional electricians will tell you. I hope no one has died horribly by not doing that.
I did not add that she said turn off the power at the end of the video. Please edit this video or redo it so you tell people to turn off the electric power at the fuse box and not the light switch, the fuse box. Could you imagine if someone walked into that room while she was working on the ceiling fan and that person switched on the light switch. This could end horribly. I am sorry for my rant but this is just good old fashioned common since. It could save lives.
