Keep the details. One thing tho', sometimes you use fast forward, and fast talking, during the actual fastening and connecting, which makes it hard to follow. I know you're trying to make the vid shorter, and ffwd is good, but some things need to be at normal speed to see what you're doing. So be aware of that when you're editing the video.

You used the correct mounting bracket. However, the ROUND shaft and turning with your hand makes it difficult for the metal spikes to dig into the ceiling joists for maximum holding power. I have seen similar bracket with the shaft shaped like a hex (not round) in order for a wrench to securely fit onto the hex shaft and properly outstretch the metal spikes. Great video.

Totally agree. I winced when he said he had to hand tighten it. No possible way that will be as secure as something tightened with a tool.
@Russianmafia10
@Russianmafia10 4 месяца назад
You need to be careful though. I had one with a hex and I easily over tightened it and the joists moved enough to pop a few drywall screws. You should really only do it by hand

The Hunter fans are great, I've had problem-free operation of them for many years in my rental property. You definitely want to spend at least $100 on a ceiling fan. The low-cost lightweight ones easily get out of balance, often hum as they operate, and are just junky. You really get what you pay for!

You hit all but one salient point. Fan sizing for a room. Most manufacturers and some local codes recommend a minimum distance of 30" from tip of fan blade to the nearest wall. Details are awesome. Great vid 👍

Last year when we moved into our new home I did 7 ceiling fans. Two of them replaced lights but I was able to use new work boxes from the attic. The most astonishing part was the variety of boxes and screws that the builder used on the original 5 fans. Everyone was a new type of jank.

1. Looks like a good video; I'm watching it now. 2. THANK YOU so much for chapters!!! This means you can go into detail (which I really enjoy) without bogging others down who might just want to know, "what box should I use for this job?" Thanks, Scott! Hopefully you have a friendly competition there on the channel. I find your videos here really very good, very watchable. Hopefully the housing market will crash so I can FINALLY get in on hopefully a fixer-upper and start to apply all this knowledge. :)

The amount of detail you provided is great and probably necessary for the average person. Especially with the bracket install. They can be a pita. Anyone that reads this, if you have access and are willing to do the work an actual rough in fan rated box is.the best solution and getting in the attic . I dont suggest lever nuts for the average person as they are very easy to bump and can un clip when moving around in the junction box to tuck them away . Most fixture wires are not able to.use on a standard wago unless the wire is tinned at the end and then it still depends on the person installing them. Just use a wire nut and give a light tug on both conductors to check for a secure connection. Follow the instructions on the wire nuts if youve not used them before, lead the stranded wire just past the solid building wire before installing the wire nut.

@9:12 The amount of detail was just right. I knew about fan-rated boxes, but the only version I knew of was the type you installed. The additional information about other types of fan-rated boxes will be of use when I'm at Big Box Store, staring at a seeming mountain of stuff. And a good warning about integrated LED lights, something that a lot of folks miss when buying the light or fan.

Just a caution, when using a power tool against the ceiling be careful of scraping the paint. And a very minor point, I alternate the blades to heel in more balanced. Less important on a flush mount, but with a long down rod it can swing to the sides as you add blades.

I am already pretty confident in my know-HOW for most DIY projects, having grown up in a family of carpenters, general contractors, and handy-men, but I also like to know WHY.
