By the way, i bought a long "heavy duty" Shimano chain for my BMX not too long ago. Is it NECESSARY to clean it or any chain on a BMX at all or not?.. I've experienced the more lubrication or product you put on a altered BMX chain the more loose it gets and the pins come out..
Yes it is necessary. The wear you’re experiencing happens to all chain. The less it is cleaned the quicker it will wear. The pins should not be affected by cleaning it. That wear usually comes from over tightening the chain. A clean lubricated chain will last longer than a dirty one. The grit and grime chews on the metal with each rotation. If you use dry lube you won’t need to clean it very often. Wet lubricants attract a lot of dirt and need to be cleaned regularly.
@@BMXPete i think i will take your advice on this since you've been doing this/BMX for 20 years or more.., but i still feel that bicycle and chain manufacturers want you to make it loose in order for you to buy a new chain.
