Timing Chain replacement. How to Find Top Dead Center. Tips and Tricks for replacement. Previous Episode here: on Diagnosis: • Timing Chain Diagnosis...
Hey Jeff and Co. hope you can point me in the right direction. I've gotten to TDC, aligned the marks, removed the sprockets, put on a new chain, reinstalled the chain and sprockets, made sure everything was aligned at TDC on comp stroke of cylinder one. I can't get the engine to turn over by hand anymore. I discovered this when I was trying to drop the oil pan to reseal it, couldn't get past the cap on cylinder six, went to turn the engine to get it out of the way, and found I couldn't turn the engine. It turns backwards easier than forwards and when it does encounter resistance it "springs back" after I release pressure. I have all the spark plugs out so there isn't compression. I'm scared valves might be hitting cylinders. Do I need to pull the valve cover to see what the rockers are doing which will tell me where along the cam rotation I am? I'm pretty alarmed, I don't want to make another move before I get some input from the pros. To add- This is a 66 with a 200ci and bone stock.
In changing out my timing chain on my 79 F150, I noticed on the cam thrust washer has some very noticeable wear. The upper gear attached to the cam touches that thrust washer. Should that washer be replaced?
Hey Jeff, when you guys put in the 5.0 are you going carb? If so, if you could detail the changes you have to make to the motor to swap from FI to carb, that would be great. Thanks!
We will be going carb. While we are interested in the FI tech EFI, the carburetor is still the cheapest way to go. Oddly not much needs to be changed to make the conversion.
Ya I would like to see that video . Just need intake dual plan .. throttle cable...Ford dura spark distributor and brain .plus new timing chain cover for mechanical fuel pump. Drop gas tank remove pump .use gas hose same length as pump .and some fuel line work to get line hooked up to carb and return line to pump
