CORRECTION!: The torque spec for the ARP damper bolt is 120 Ft Lbs, 90 is for the stock bolt.

Hi... I really needed a re-fresher on this. I aquired a very low mile miles 5.0L Explorer engine complete from a wrecker...I dismantled it then life happened and I am just now getting back to it. Its amazing the small details I had forgotten. Your re-assembly vids are the best out there ! Many thanks.

Love the Chevy style water pump. Had to change one on an 84 Grand Marquis and I'm pretty sure Ford hung the water pump on a chain and built the car around it. My 79 Firebird on the other hand with a Chevy 305 got changed out in about 30 minutes on the side of a busy road at Ole Miss.

Clean job, only thing I recommend is to install the damper first for centering purposes before torquing down the timing cover.

Not a bad way to go but honestly if it matches flat on the bottom you should be good if the front plate is made correctly. Thanks for watching!

Why not do RTV on both sides of the gasket for water channels instead of contact cement on one side and RTV only on one side?

Great series, very informative. I am currently building a 347 striker myself, You had a lot more machining done than I was planning on doing but I like wha you have done. I am curious about what your machine bill is roughly. I know it will be different everywhere but I’m just trying to figure my own budget. Thanks again.

I've never seen contact cement used on gaskets. It's a good tip! Is that permatex contact, like the stuff used for weather stripping? This series is the refresher I needed, thank you!!

Two questions. 1. If we were just rebuilding a stock 302, when you installed the electric water pump, is that the time we would install the regular water pump? And 2. If I purchase that particular damper you have, do I have to buy other parts to go along with it? Or would I be better off buying a regular OEM style damper? I’m doing a base rebuild.

What "contact cement" spray are you using on one side of the gaskets? I have previously used the copper gasket spray, and am wondering which of these two would likely make the most leak-proof seal?

Noticing you never checked for cam endplay? I’m installing the same timing set (based in this video recommendation). Noticing there is zero endplay as compared to the factory single cam sprocket, which has some endplay. Curious if yours had any play at all….

Hey...GREAT VIDEO...question...would the reason for the longer dowel in the end of the camshaft be for a fuel pump eccentric? And the shorter one be for if you were to be running an electric fuel pump? Thanks!!
@2carpros
@2carpros 2 года назад
Thanks so much for watching! Yeah that is a good point. I want to say that is likely. We were never going to run one so I didn't even consider it. Just thought maybe different timing sets were thicker.

@2carpros Hello. Where did you find the thrust bearing that goes on the cam sprocket. I’m doing a 347 build also with an 81 302 block, have the same timing chain set up but no thrust bearing?? Thanks!😮

When you line up the timing marks is it nessesary for the number one cylinder to be on tdc? Thats assuming the key would be straight up at tdc.

302 roller from explorer 99. The timing chain on a doublenroller bottom gear almost touches the block. Is that normal?
@viprz5444
@viprz5444 Год назад
Hey Ryan or fellow moderators of this account. I’ve been following your guides for a few months now in the process of building a 302. I have a quick question, I’ve done plenty of research and have heard so many different things and want to get your opinion. I plan on getting a lightweight flywheel maybe 15 pounds or so. The counter weight stuff has confused me with the damper. So my question is if I were to run a lightweight flywheel. What kind of damper should I use? I was reading about the 28 oz and a 50 oz. My block and rotating assembly are from a 72. Thanks!
@2carpros
@2carpros Год назад
Hey there thank you so much for watching! Just make sure you get an internally balanced crankshaft, damper, and flywheel for integrally balanced cranks and you should be made in the shade. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask, I try to get to all of them but we get a lot of comments lol

Wondering that myself. Got cam walk on my 302 roller block and trying to figure out if this bearing was supposed to be between the cam and the thrust plate or just comes with some of the timing sets sold. My cam thrust plate wore down causing the cam walk issue.

Why did you put sealant on the gasket to the block but then put RTV on the timing cover to the gasket? Why not put sealant on both?
@2carpros
@2carpros 8 месяцев назад
You could. I just think it needs RTV more on the less flat side and not so much on the cover side but nothing stopping you from using RTV on both. Thanks for watching!
