Auto-Out of Range kits are wonderful aftermarket additions to the A2 pinsetter, which allow the machine to automatically handle Out of Range calls without the intervention of a mechanic or pinchaser. The core principle of the kit is simple: remove the link that the detector uses to disengage the gearbox clutch at 90 degrees on an out of range cycle, and then drop a hook around the hook selector to lock out the rake so it doesn't sweep during said cycle.
It can be argued that these kits just replace one call with another, since you may have to clear away deadwood from the deck, but in practice, they reduce the amount of machine stops and mechanic calls dramatically, as few open-play bowlers will care about deadwood on deck, and in many situations there won't be deadwood at all, or it will be far enough to one side that a league bowler won't hesitate to ignore it.
The kit is relatively easy to install, and the full process including preparation, tweaking, and troubleshooting will generally take less than an hour. The most important adjustment is filing down the hook on the front of the kit-the amount it will need to be filed down varies between machines, but I've never yet found a machine that didn't need some amount of filing.
You should not attempt to install one of these kits unless you have a thorough understanding of the machine, and the OoR linkages in particular. Consult your Facility Manager or Head Mechanic before installing one.
As a final note that I forgot to cover in the video, this kit makes the Out of Range Latch on the front crossbraces of the machine unnecessary. It can be flipped up and out of the way, or entirely removed, which can save you some very annoying adjustments and strange issues.
