That’s a big one, but I’m not opposed to doing it. I’ll add it to my list but it might be a minute before I get to it

just FYI for everyone else. the race rings are a machined pair. don't mix. always zip tie your race rings loosely together when in storage or when cleaning more than one pair at a time. some after cleaning the ball bearings will soak them in a cup with oil with the felt wick. then squeegee the felt with the tips of the thumb and fore finger to remove the execess oil before reinstalling.

I didn’t know they were paired, thanks for teaching me something new!

I always try to keep them together but using mis matched ones has never caused me an issue in 12 + years.

Wow Thats lot movement..Never seen anything like that before. I went in to center in northern Illinois that recently closed got some parts. This center opened in early 60s.i was told.I got 3 spiders none of the 3 had any movement at all. Thats like more then 60 years of operation.when i took them apart the ball bearing had lots grease and oil on them the felt pad was wet from grease oil. I think some of us think grease is always the answer. .Grease drys up over time. If you add oil to it it gets all mushy and does not dry up.

For the rubber stop, i use hand sanitizer (just because it drys up overtime) and the vise, and a flat head, never tore one up yet lol

Well ok then, I’ll have to give that a try!

I work at a 32 lane house. Previous mechanics before me apparently praised the use of grease in all of the turrets,........ grease does not belong in the turret. I have brought this to the lead tech's attention and told him that i would love to pull each spider and clean all of the grease out,.......... he told that it would be a waste of time and labor.

No that would save you so much hassle down the road. We use STP oil treatment, but I’ve heard people use just regular 10-w30 motor oil. Grease is to thick and sticky!

@shawnmbowling I agree 100%!! I use plain ol' 10-30 oil. I am currently in the process building up a pair of spiders at a time and swap.

Not a question related to the machines themselves. However noticed you usually work on lane 15 on the rear guard, but noticed the curtain wall says lane 25. Did the center add 10 lanes on to the beginning of the house?

Yes, the house used to have 48 lanes and used to be the biggest house between Salt Lake City and Denver. When the current owner bought it back in 2009 he didn’t do enough business at the time to justify having those lanes, so he took out 10 lanes and put in a pool and arcade area.

Grease! OMG. someone thought; okay bearings so grease. nor did they check the lubrication charts (2 holes, 4 drops of oil each hole, weekly.) not understanding the physics of the difference use between oil and grease. grease for heavy load weight on the bearings and or high speed rotation. and the Spider ring is not a heavy load bearing weight like the deck support arm bearings nor a high speed bearings like the jack shaft bearings.

Exactly! But based on who we’ve had work back here over the years it didn’t really surprise me that much lol
