Really hope you had a structural engineer involved in this, some load bearing and even non load bearing walls also provide shear strength to the building, preventing it from racking, also you need to carry the new load of the beam all the way down to a footing or foundation wall.

Great job! A lot more work than I thought, but the finished product speaks for itself.

Just know if your going to be doing this diy for your self look into the foundation. Best if your new beam in right over top of your steel beam in the basement. If is a crawl your going to need footers support that new weight on the ends ... just something to be very aware of for your safety.

Looks good but always hire and engineer and get a set of drawings , maybe you needed 3 beams instead of 2 and the load has to be transferred to the beam bellow or directly onto a new footing with bigger posts 3 or 4 2x6s glued and nailed/screwed Your subfloor is not made to handle those loads

Need to carry those 2x4 studs down to a footing.

No concrete post footings or Simpson post anchors?? This would never pass inspection in Los Angeles. Not sure you know what you're doing.

Without knowing what is holding up the subfloor in those two new load points, you guys may have just created a mess for the new owner and a lawsuit for yourselves.

Had to laugh at seeing "empowering women" then cutting to the men doing the heavy work carrying the beams lol

Hi! I have a ❓ we are replacing a 38' wall and our beam is 38'X18'X3' 1/4'' is that enough support? I hope you can see my question soon. Thank you so much 🤗

Nope, not for 38 feet.

Structurally, these beams need to be figured out to carry a resting snow load on the roof...2 beams is insufficient for a 20 foot or greater span...you need three 1 3/4"x12" beams glued together with adhesive and screwed together in a pattern of 2:1:2 every 16 inches with 5" structural screws. Also, you need to carry the beam with a double 2x6" on each end and transfer the load to the foundation in the basement directly under the beam jacks with a structural post sufficient to carry the load, not one of those cheap hollow lolly columns. It looks like she had her old timer father just throw it in there without referring to any code or structural loads. Anyone can do this, but an inspector worth their salt would pick up on these errors in an instant. If you are flipping the house and can get away with it---all the power to you.

Greatly appreciate your info. That beam did not look big enough for their purpose in my eyes. Im looking to do 1 20-22 foot span at the center of the "old house". Will definitely get an engineer before i go through with it but a rough idea is nice.

THIS IS HALF OF HOW YOU DO THIS. The most important part was totally left out and I'm thinkin' it was because it wasn't even done. FAIL!!

Ugly... beam should be hidden in the attic. That house will feel more open!

That is not an engineered beam. It's just a couple cobbled together pieces of old 2x lumber. It doesn't look thick enough for that span, and your sloppy, inexperienced work means you also didn't reinforce the load path down thru the structure below. You have incorrect & insufficient support for the beam on the ends. The sideways bow is there because you failed to face the lumber, or make the bows opposing, before assembly. This is a complete fail. It's a dangerous violation of building codes and really it's borderline fraudulent to do this as a real estate investor pushing these hidden problems out onto a new unsuspecting buyer. You needed a real engineer for this kind of beam. Please take this video down. Not only because you are steering someone else to do it wrong, but also because it is legal proof of your culpability for the new buyers. This video proves you will have to pay them everything they ask to redo it right when lawsuit comes.
