Don't understand why everyone always rotate the wheels, watch the pushrods etc to find top dead center, base circle.... then sticking fingers into tappets. Just remove the cam cover and use the timing marks on the chain sprockets for exact top dead center. Easy peasy
I had hopes of tackling this myself all the way up to the point where you removed the spark plugs. It was at that moment that my confidence was shattered and decided to call the dealer.
Just hoping the tech at the Harley I just dropped my bike off at knows as much as you. I went with woods wm8 22xe on Low Rider S. The Harley where i did my 1,000 mile service at.. they filled it to the hot fill line while cold. Hoping Panama City Harley has more sense.
About to do this on my 21 FLHRXS only gonna do the Woods 22xe cam…. Looking forward to it, should sound good with the no cat and unbaffled bam sticks, got to put the t bars on this weekend, waiting for the damn riser cover to come in from HD
Quick question only because I didn’t see anything showing it but during the cam install portion, how did you align the cam itself or did you just put it in there and then adjust?
Awesome video.. great motivation… quick question.. is oil supposed to come out from the crank pinion area, while turning the rear wheel?… everything is back together.. just checking one last time with chest open.. thanks
I'll be tackling this in a couple weeks. I used your idea for using a mason jar for the lifters along with an automotive AC purge pump. Do you happen to know the vacuum pressure you need? My AC pump maxes out at 28 inches of mercury (about 14 psi vacuum pressure). Curious what you use.
Nice Vid bro!. I recently picked up a 2018 softail FXLR. I came across the oil pump sump issue. I was thinking of getting the stock the oil pump to the HD revised one. At the same time, upgrade the cam to the S&S 475. Every detailed vid I've found on here until now shows everyone swapping out the stock pump and changing the cam plate. I was wondering how come you didn't swap out the pump or change the cam plate? Makes me curious if I need to spend the money on an aftermarket cam plate or would stock be just fine?
It’s all about the money and what you want to spend! It’s critical to know the run out before you run one of the billet plates and pumps. So the sumping issues were a big deal on the 2018 models because it was a pretty new platform and Harley uses its consumers and test dummies lol. But the sumping didn’t affect the 107ci bikes as much as it did the bigger inch motors. So if it’s gone this long without an issue, it’s probably not going to become an issue. The aftermarket pump will move oil a lot more efficiently, and you’ll eliminate any question of concern, but it isn’t necessarily a cheap part to change, especially if you’re not having a problem.
Did this to my 2022 fxlrs. Works your video helped a lot. Just one question if you could help i get code PO330 i erase it keeps coming back and i already changed knocj sensors. Pretty new bike 6k miles only owner. Any help would be amazing
From your experience, is it ok to use the stock pushrod covers(the chrome ones) that used to be on the stage 1, on the stage 2? Thanks in advance, loved the video
Yeah you can reuse the stock covers, but the aftermarket ones are a shorter and the collar locks are longer. It gives you more room to adjust the pushrods
Hey i see your re using stock pushrods cover,Did you have a hard time getting the upper push rod tube to seat in the o ring in the rocker?I was fighting with that for a while not much to grab onto
A power vision and a base map will get you close to where you need to be. That’s what I have done on my Dyna right now, but I’m also willing to rebuild it if I have problems lol. The best thing you can do on any build is get it dyno tuned.
@@TheVeroneeLife there’s no dumb questions here brotha! Overall, a dyno tuner will be adjusting your air:fuel ratio. The better they get that ratio for your bike, the more power you make or the better fuel economy you get. As they tune though, they are monitoring all kinds of parameters to match what the air:fuel is changing. Head temps, exhaust temps, engine temps, exhaust gases, fuel timing, etc.
A 2018 M8 and the owner didn’t opt for an oil pump?! I hope he’s had one done under warranty… maybe that’s why there was a bolt partially stripped there?
Yeah man, if you are willing to ship it or ride it to Omaha and back I can get it done 🤘🏻 If you’re serious about it shoot me an email at b.gilstrap@yahoo.com
@@GilstrapGarage Ok' is that it? The reason why I'm asking, is because' I don't know much about the tuner's or other things, that has to do with them. I'm trying to find out what I need to actually do, and' or' buy, once I put in a S&S cam plate and oil pump, because I want to put in a bigger cam, but' one that's for the low/ mid range torque area, and' need to know also' what would be a good cam, for still using the stock springs.
Hey man, thinkin about doing this cam on my 19 street glide special. Are there any issues with stock oil pump ? Is the s&s necessary? Also, what tuner do you recommend?
If you read the comments on this video, you’ll see that people freak out with me not changing the oil pump. The sumping isn’t an issue like it was when the m8 came out 6 years ago. It’s a good upgrade to do the aftermarket pump and plate, but it’s also more important to know your crank runout before you stick them In there. In a lot of cases, I’d be fine with running the stock parts. For tuners, I’ve found the best results getting it Dyno tunes and flashes straight to the ECM without installing a tuner, but I’m also a big fan of the power visions and power commanders
I have an m8 and I'm not loving the sound even with pipes. I've been researching the sound impact of a torque cam. Some say it is noticeable but others say no. I just heard a guy's m8 with HD torque cams and it sounds like stock. For $2,500.00 I think I'll pass.
Hello. this is a question. I have a 22year road glide special 114ci. Install the s&s 475c cam. Do I have to upgrade the intake air? Can I use it as a stock?
Why don't you start off by draining the oil as soon as you pull that oil pump out there's gonna be oil everywhere and you gotta change oil anyway before you put the new cams in
I’m about to do a cam in my 2020, I was curious if you re used the stock pushrod tubes. I’m doing s&s adjustable pushrods and had planned on keeping the chrome so figured I didn’t need them but was not sure if it would work with the stock tubes or not
