How to install an Outside Socket with a Fused Switch Spur (Safely)

After spending a RIDICULOUS amount of time watching Electricians on RU-vid I decided I was competent (ish) and could safely install a new outside socket on my driveway... How did it go? Did I completely mess it up? Did I blow up the house? Did it all go horribly wrong?
Well blummin' watch and find out!
I would really like to add that this is how I installed it - this is the first time I've ever done anything like this, and there are a few mistakes and things I messed up, as well as a few steps I didn't show. However the final result is pretty satisfactory.. But if you're in doubt about doing something like this, then please DON'T.
This is the socket I fitted - amzn.to/3qXDEmt
This is the socket tester I used - amzn.to/3KIExY2
This is the fused switch spur I used - amzn.to/3G1XMIo
This is the MK Rapid Fix Double Socket I used - amzn.to/3rTddxr
Special shout out to ‪@Cjrelectrical‬ ‪@NBundyElectrical‬ ‪@dsesuk‬ ‪@artisanelectrics‬ ‪@JRCElectrical‬ ‪@MyTrustedElectrician‬ ‪@Cablesmith‬ and all the other awesome RU-vid Sparks who do this stuff a lot better than me!

Nice job. Only thin g I would've done differently is rather than making that FCU a spur, I would've pulled one of the cables originally going to the socket through and put the FCU in the ring.

Nice job mate. Top tip to get them bang on level off both lugs rather than the one then mark it then level off that line. Can also drill the fixings hole before you chase out. Shame no Kopex was used 😁

Nice to see you actually switch on / off when inserting and unplugging the socket tester not many on u- tube do this safety procedure including electricians that should know better.

Looks good to me. I'm probably about your level of competence but luckily I have a qualified college teaching electrician next door and he's a good mate. He's bailed me out on a few occasions but is a wealth of knowledge when I plan something myself. I did this same thing last week specifically so we can karcher our new car without dragging a long dodgy extension lead around from the back of the house. All I did different was what with not having a convenient plug socket the other side of the wall I drilled through and run the cable through a patress box and on the end of the cable I simply fitted a 13a plug. I tacked the exposed cable to the skirting board and the plug fits into a spare socket behind the telly. We also have the option of cutting the power to stop someone nicking our electricity when we're out. I've seen loads of content doing this job and they all go on about the importance of sealing the screw holes and around the plastic pipe but no one suggests running a bead of sealant along the gap where the box joins the wall. I'm quietly pleased with my project and so should you be too.😊

Tip..... If you knock the hammer off the drill just before you get through the wall, it "mostly" stop the brick blowing out. Otherwise, good job 👏

I thought you might have just moved the switch box up and little and fill underneath, just like the play socket. Other than that, looked good, I assume you tested the outside socket too? (NB I am not an electrician either!!!)

The first thing done should have been to make sure it was a socket on the ring final circuit and not one of two sockets on a spur which isn't allowed. You shouldn't leave Wago's exposed like that if you are working live around them. You should have popped then in a Wago box for safety.
@Waynesworldofgaming
@Waynesworldofgaming Год назад
Leaving wagos is fine in your own house, there’s no way of touching live connections. In my opinion if you’re stupid enough to play with it, you deserve to get shocked
@martinw245
@martinw245 Год назад
@@Waynesworldofgaming Not the right attitude. You can never be sure who in the household will "be stupid enough". I had a friend who did something similar. Thought he was alone in the house, he wasn't... Children, visitors to the house animals. If you leave connectors that are supposed to be in an enclosure, live and exposed, the authorites aren't going to say "nah, no problem, they deserved it". It's simple and easy to do, so why not.
@kiphakes
@kiphakes Год назад
Socket was / is on a ring final - yes I should've mentioned it, but - it's a bit late now! The wagos were fine - only me, my wife and the dog in the house when I did that.
