Hope this do it yourself tutorial walk through helps you mount and install your arlo video doorbell. The install is quite easy but keep in mind you will probably need a new door bell transformer unless your house is brand new. thanks for watching.

Great video. My chime box says to connect to a 16v transformer. Arlo support is telling me to replace my 16v with a 24v. There's no chime boxes that support 24v. Is it safe to simply swap out the 16v for the 24v transformer or will my house explode?

Ok so that was my question also as I’m standing here looking at my transformer which is a Nutone EM57580 and when I Google it, it says it’s a 16V 10VA load and I thought my new Arlo doorbell would work with that but it doesn’t. I’d seen other online post state the same thing about bumping up to the 24V meaning there aren’t any chimes that can handle that voltage without risk of damage.

Just found your video and thank you for sharing it. Do you find the angle of the door bell sufficient or do you wish it was at more of an angle? I am thinking of purchasing this system and my door bell is on the same wall as yours.

Yo! Did you get a "red ring" when you installed the doorbell? NONE of Arlo's documentation references a red ring but I'm fairly confident it's the transformer. Spent the last couple days in 100°+ weather crawling through our attic and basement trying to find the damn transformer, all the while worrying that it won't end up fixing the red ring. If YOU got the red ring and the transformer fixed it, that'll give me the extra push I need to find the dang thing. Great vid, btw. Super helpful.

Yes I have had it fix the red ring. Now just to make sure your wifi is good at the door bell as well. The transformer is always hidden between the doorbell and the chime box. Hopefully that helps you narrow it. If you can't find it anywhere and you checked your laundry room and all your closets it might be tucked in the breaker panel

@@ghostlyrich I've checked: - around the furnace in our crawl space - in the attic near all light fixtures that turn off with the breaker that turns off the doorbell - in the laundry room - in the crawl space behind laundry room - in\around the breaker panel I've managed to find what I THINK are the wires coming from the chime box when I go into the attic, but they disappear back down somewhere that I just... can't locate inside the house. Preciate the help, but I think I'm gonna have to hire an electrician - much to my DIY ego's chagrin. Thanks!

@@ghostlyrich I’ve tried to set the doorbell up twice and both times it connects to my WiFi router directly and not to the Smart hub. I just saw on someone instructional video posted a year ago that the doorbell didn’t work with the hub but was supposed to at a later date with a firmware update.

Unfortunately most houses in the UK do not have transformers so seems this doorbell is a no go for me

Directions say the wires from your existing doorbell should be at the bottom of the backing plate, not the middle!?

Im out lol, this is way too advanced for most inexperienced laymen. You’re like matching up wires, talking about transformers, popping ceiling panels to see things, using a device to test stuff. Too advanced for me
