I am curious Jeff. I have had people tell that the carbon fiber guard (which I run) actually traps heat. Therefore, it causes micro cracks in the pipe and ruining it. Any truth to this? By the way your parts store is THE best online.
Hello: The guys telling you that should spend more time riding and less time chit chatting about subjects in which they are not educated. The guard only covers part of the pipe and there is plenty of surface area for heat dissipation, although retaining heat is a non-issue. Many performance tuners (there are few left in this country) consider heat retention a good thing. As far as cracks, that is total BS. Pipe cracks (other than ones caused from crashes) are almost always in the head pipe area, just a few inches from the cylinder. Those are caused by not servicing the pipe o-rings which allows the pipe to rub the cylinder and the resulting vibration cracks the head pipe over time. The o-rings should be changed regularly to prevent cracking.
Espen, It's just how I talk and that is not going to change. I help guys all day everyday.....emails, phone, social media. I do everything I can do to help and have been doing it for 48 years. If my manner of speaking is offensive to you, you should switch to one of the milk toast channels. You know, the guys that have no skills, poor content, yet pose as professionals and always have to have their mug in front of the camera. You seldom see my mug because the videos are not about me and I prefer to focus on the content.
shut the fuck up and ride your bike, this guy is doing this video because people like you are so caught up with social media bullshit. this fucking shit drives me crazy with people spending more time critiquing how the video was made instead of riding their bikes if they have one.
Jeff, What do you think about the MAXCoverage Carbon Pipe Guards? Seems like they would keep the heat in the pipe. Does the extra coverage buy any piece of mind?
Haven't given them much thought. They are fairly new to market and have been poor sellers so far. I doubt if they keep more heat in the pipe and what would it hurt if they did, nothing? Peace of mind is up to you.
I've had a max coverage p3 guard 💂♂️ on my 2021 ktm 300 xc-w tpi (stock pipe) for 3 hrs. Honestly, I don't believe it's any larger, & therefore offers any additional protection, than the E line guard in this video. One notable difference is the subtle way in which each manufacturer chose to use the smaller clamp to affix the guard. E line has a groove that Jeff mentions while p3 has two slits similar to the larger end of the E line guard. Therfore, it's possible to expose more of the sexy carbon fiber on the p3. I can't believe you made a video about this either Jeff, but I was looking for insight & found it, so thank you.
The best tip is to not buy a carbon fibre pipe guard... Each and every single one is junk... Maybe this one is really durable but the entire concept of a guard beeing mounted to the pipe is not worth a penny. Use a proper pipe guard such as muzzle or ptech and use that....
Andrej Carbon pipe guards or other pipe mounted guards are not for everyone but they are very popular and beneficial for most riders. They do not protect the pipe well during big impacts, like ramming into a large boulder, but they do offer good protection from rocks coming off the front wheel and for smaller impacts like falling over in a corner or in a rock garden. For ultimate protection, pipe guard/skid plate combos like the Emperor slavensracing.com/shop/pipe-guard-skid-plate-17-ktm-husqvarna-emperor-racing/ is the way to go. I use carbon guards on my bikes because they look great, are lightweight and offer enough protection for me.
@LiquidAider Thank you. I've been down for 5 months recovering from extreme injuries from a MC vs truck head-on collision. Still have a long recovery road ahead.
