I’ve been repairing some of these in a an apt building. Seems to be bad design with small nails (more of a mix of nail and screw). Had to use longer screws that I bought separately. The bar you show at 3:57, the end part that is curved, that curve should be in the other direction to really support the bar. Otherwise if you put to much weight on the shelf this little curve won’t hold enough. What could work better is having these bars over the shelf, instead of under. Yes, i know, it’s not very aesthetic.
Thank you for this! I really want to do this for another layer of shelves for my closet. I'm just worried because no shelves actually match the length of my 68" wall. It's longer than 5 feet but shorter than 6. Not sure what to do. No kits match and I'm not findding adjustable.
Hi, glad this video helped! What you can do is go to a home improvement store and buy shelf longer than needed and they will cut it to the length you need in store :). You get to keep both pieces of shelf of course
How much do those brackets on the ends of the shelf actually come out from the wall? I have a 73" closet and I'm wondering if I can just make the 72" shelf work. I'd hate to buy the 8ft or larger version just to trim it down to 73"
When I measured they came out 1 3/4” from the wall, the more of the rack is in the retainer the better. You could add an extra bracket support arm underneath on that end if worried
Great question, can’t remember. If I did I would always start out with a smaller drill bit than needed if I felt resistance I would just use a screw to bite into the wood for securement.
