how to install ford/ moser bearing ends on a chevelle 12 bolt rearend. contact me if you need any parts or a rear for your chevy. email telowe2000@yahoo.com
I wanna do this on my early 70's Chevy 12-Bolt as well. The axle bearings can pretty much be removed by hand, you don't even need a slide hammer to remove them. I guess the the housing race is worn just enough so the axle bearing doesn't fit tight inside of it. Nice video, thanks for posting it.
Hey Tom, Just wanted to give a tip. Back in the 80's I narrowed a 9 inch for my Vega. I bought the housing ends from Chassis engineering. After I made the cuts, I put the center section in with a few bolts, and put my axles/bearings through the ends, and into the center section in the rear. This way you don't need anything else for allignment, the actual axles are your allignmet tool. Then just weld and you are done. Those housing ends slipped over top of the housing, not inside or butted.
We never use a Jig bar method. Don't do this.! We first check every housing on a lathe to insure it is straight with a dial indicator. If is is out, say we straighten it. Then we machine the axle tubes and ends for a press fit. V cut and welded. Afterwards, we place the dial indicator on the brake flange face and varify .000 measurement. If your racing who cares right? Is the axle above, below, forward or back of centerline.? Is the axle pushing or pulling from not being parallel? Which direction the tires and are they sitting flat? Let's say your .020 out from the axle shaft. Now run that out 14" from a 28" tall tire.. That's .35 at the tire. UGH
