That bad stud ring looks like the Moog version. Mine were the same. I just tack welded them and learned a lesson. OEM’s the way to go with those. Your vid’s are great and I’m jealous of that big spread you have.

@@dustydiesel564XCELLENT VIDÉO ! But I have a question, I need to change my springs too, and I want to put more longer (2,5 " higher) can I use a spring compressor or do you think I can install them without compressor, just to put down the axle is enough to install them ? Thank you for your help

Well this is got me curious to try this lol. Pick up the thuren soft ride shocks and need to put them on, so tired of the rough ride after owning the truck for a couple of years
@dustydiesel564
@dustydiesel564 3 года назад
I think ride is very subjective. The Thuren XS softride springs and Fox shocks have taken the harshness out of the ride but it is still a pickup truck. I have a brand new Jeep Wrangler and the truck rides much smoother but that probably is not a good comparison.

Depends on your tire size. Lifting the truck pulls the axle back in the wheel well opening, as well as sideways from the track bar. You will need an adjustable track bar, but can get away with stock control arms, I believe, don't quote me, up to 35 inch tires. They will almost rub the inner fender towards the cab.

Do you have stock rear blocks under the leaf springs? If you do how tall are they ? Thank you
@dustydiesel564
@dustydiesel564 3 года назад
Stock rear blocks for now. My plan is to upgrade the rear with a full Carli replacement spring. It sits about 1/2" high in the front at the moment. I actually like that look but the rear springs are so stiff it is a shame to have such a nice riding front end with a overly stiff rear suspension.

Pushing the shock down and then moving it over is the best way to get the shock out. Otherwise an air hammer is needed to push it up.

How do those springs ride compared to stock?
@dustydiesel564
@dustydiesel564 3 года назад
The springs are much softer than stock. They soak up the bumps, the ride is much improved but the back is still very stiff. I am going to get softer springs out back and use airbags when loaded.
@payloadperformance9706
@payloadperformance9706 3 года назад
I tried to install the springs last night using the exact same method you used, removed the sway bar and everything but the axle wouldn’t drop low enough to fit in the new carli leveling spring, I still need about 2 more inches of axle drop to make it fit. I did however notice the stock upper control arm was maxed out and hitting the housing at full drop Any help would be rad, I’ll be uploading the video on my channel soon!
@dustydiesel564
@dustydiesel564 3 года назад
I did the control arms first. Is the frame blocked up high enough off the ground to allow the axle to drop as far as it can. I had to bottom out my jack under the front axle. Honestly the whole thing is a bit sketchy unless the truck is blocked up really well.
@payloadperformance9706
@payloadperformance9706 3 года назад
@@dustydiesel564 yeah i currently working on it as we speak, there is still about 8” left after the axle is filled dropped but I noticed the upper control arm (stock) is maxed out, I just removed it to see if it will allow for more articulation. We will see in about 10 mins if this works. Thanks for the reply!
@dustydiesel564

@@payloadperformance9706 Hope it worked. I forgot to remove the brake line on the drivers side and that held the axle up!
@payloadperformance9706
@payloadperformance9706 3 года назад
@@dustydiesel564 yeah I did it, but I had to remove both upper and lower control arms, that’s was the limiting factor for mine. Since they aren’t long it didn’t allow the axle to drop enough to get the new spring in, tomorrow I’m doing the driver side which has a spring that’s about 1” bigger so we will see how that one goes.

Only thing holdin me back from getting a full 3inch carli setup for my 12 valve is my wallet. And boy did they get more expensive since I’ve been waiting. Have recently started givin thought into maybe a thuren’s 6inch springs. I’m currently on a 4 inch lift with a set of 4 ranchos probably ten years old and a nearly 10 year old air bags in the back. I just threw on a set of brand new 35” BFGs on some new 17 inchers. A nice upgrade from the 31s that I had on. Already sick of em and should have just bought 37s of the bat. Now I’m worried I’m not gun think 37s are big enough. Who knows... just bought a new dash from LMC and dropped a pretty penny on a 99-02 sport bumper from ‘em too I’ll will trying to stick on a 97. Curious what your thoughts are on the 3inch carli or going big on a 6inch thuren coils and firguring out the rest, nice to see fathers workin w their sons. -Pete
@dustydiesel564
@dustydiesel564 3 года назад
I really like the Thuren srings and I hear the Carli springs are similar. I think I would want long arms if I went 6 inch lift. Don't forget a nice trackbar. The DT ProFab on my truck made a really big difference in how the truck drives. Funny you mentioned the 37's. We just put 37's on the truck and my son is editing the video now. He does all the work I just stand in front of the camera and talk trucks. He wanted to do the channel and it has been a great bonding experience. Appreciate your comments.

@@wildamericanarchery5129 The sway Bar flip video talks about adjusting it but I didn't really film it. Basically just loosen the jam nuts and spin the middle section to move the axle left or right. I did block the frame up to allow the axle to move freely.

@@mikebates4815 It still has the stock leaf springs in the rear so the front rides great but the back is bumpy.
