Im using t 1-11 on a carport bumpout. So there is a low slope roof that meet a back wall. Should i put a osb panel on the back wall fist,flash it then cover with the t1 -11. Thanks.

Question; nailing the flashing on top of the shingles is not a waterproofing issue? Thanks

It is, we just seal it with structural sealant. If it is a short run we try not to put any nails that are left exposed. On a long run such as this you need to put a few nails in.

What seals the top of the curb to the sky light? I took a blower to blow off the tree needles from the roof top and needles were coming through this gap. Sky lights are a year old and have had lots of heavy wind and rain with no leaks.

Usually nothing, a waterproofing seal is not needed, if your worried about wind then a gasket will do

For the life of me I can’t find this type of flashing. Everything they sell is 90 degrees but I believe the roof to the head wall is a 45 degree angle. Is there an other name is it called beside head wall flashing or apron flashing? Thanks!

Every region calls it something different, and every region has somewhat different flashings.

How far past the edge should the headwall flashing?
@RoofRepairSpecialist

Not sure I understand, if you mean to the right and left side i would say 3-4”

Do you put nails in the 4” section of the flashing. If so how often?
@RoofRepairSpecialist
@RoofRepairSpecialist Год назад
We generally dont put nails in the exposed area of the 4" section unless its a long run. If its just a 2-3ft skylight it wont lift up. If it is a 10ft section under a wall we risk the flashing lifting up and we put nails to prevent that. I would say keep it at every 2-3ft on center. We try to minimize those nails as they will be left exposed.

@@RoofRepairSpecialist the contractor that did my roof put nails approx every 1” on a 25’-30’ run. Excessive in my opinion.

Should there be snow and ice material around the skylight before the shingles and flashing??
@RoofRepairSpecialist
@RoofRepairSpecialist Год назад
Depends, if you have ice and snow where you live then yes. If the skylight manufacturer requires it then also yes. Velux does provide it and require it.

@@RoofRepairSpecialist Yes, we do get a lot of snow some years. Thx I am trying to properly flash and shingle around my chimney that goes thru my garage roof and one side attaches to the gable end of my house.
