Argon SSD base can be connected to your computer using an appropriate USB-A to whatever USB port your computer uses. The SATA SSD in the Argon base will then act as a USB-connected drive.

A not-too-well-known fact is that the Raspberry Pi OS is also available for a Mac or Intel/AMD machine. This turns your desktop into a large RPi. I use it to run odd-ball situations when I don’t want to mess with RPi boards. Create a LIVE install onto a USB drive, and boot into an RPi running on a powerful CPU with 32GB RAM.

Thank you, that was super easy to follow and timely - I got notification last week that Raspberry Pis had come back into stock and I ordered one along with the Argon One case, Argon PSU with on/off cable and SSD. It all arrived today and it all worked on the first attempt.

I'm glad to hear it! Congrats on the new RPI as well, those have not been easy to get lately! I'm glad everything worked for you, I'm working on some videos for what's next so I hope you find them useful. If you need any help in the meantime, let me know! Thanks for the comment.

The Raspberry Pi Imager Software allows you to set up SSH and/or WiFi as an option during the imaging procedure.

It does, but only for Raspbian OS, not HomeAssistantOS. I showed this around the 9:45 mark in the video!

Metal Table is a bad idea, unless it's grounded and then still covered it with a matt

I see where you’re coming from but it’s a coated nsf certified surface so I like to think it’s fine for my hobbyist use.

It’s been several years that the RPi 3/4 has not needed a USB Boot loader setup.

What kind of device? Is your NIC supported by Linux?

@jaylenyoung5108 9 месяцев назад
Ouuu I’m new to this I don’t know what (NIC) is but I’m doing this with an xps 15 laptop, I have the raspberry pi 4, on a nighthawk r7000 router. The raspberry is connected to Lan cable . But I don’t see the ip by the (wlan0). I also had an pi in the past that I got rid of.

Update: It was a case issue took it out of the case now the (end0) ip address is popping up now

Hello, I did the same thing you showed in the video, but the case gets very hot, how can I control the fan?
@ChuckBuilds
@ChuckBuilds 3 месяца назад
There’s an addon for the argon one inside of HomeAssistant that lets you control the fan curve!

When I plug the USB jumper in nothing happens - the SSD is not detected.

What SSD are you using? And you're using an Argon case correct?

@@ChuckBuilds Addendum - I think the USB bridge was bad. I have it working with a separate USB to USB cable.

Thanks for your video, you gave me the push to finally go HA, I made it almost to the end. HA is installed and seems to be working, wifi is connected however I can't open it on my browser, running a MAC mini with safari Version 16.6 . After entering the address I get "Safari Can't Open the Page". Were does the ":8123" come from is it the same for all. THX
@ChuckBuilds
@ChuckBuilds Год назад
Hi the :8123 is the port that homeassistant is running on. You can’t leave that off. Try homeassistant.local:8123 in your address bar

If I have already RPI OS installed on my SSD, how to install HA??
@ChuckBuilds
@ChuckBuilds 4 месяца назад
You need to use a flash drive to overwrite the ssd. You can’t be using the ssd for the os and overwrite it at the same time

Argon sold an NVME-capable base, but it’s been un-available for several months.. sad
@ChuckBuilds

I wish I had gotten that! I hadn't seen it when ordering this one a few years back and decided to stick with what I had. Good call out for others. I really like the Argon but the Sata drive is a big limitation.

I would recommend the HAOS but technically yes it would be able to run it in docker! Might be a bit slow if you have any video processing

Seriously? I mean the video is great, but how can you recommend an NVME SSD .. and only line out on screen that it's actually not suited for the exact purpose of the video??
@ChuckBuilds
@ChuckBuilds 5 месяцев назад
There are some argon kits and SSD expansion boards that work with NVME, in which case I would recommend an NVME. I would recommend an NVME over SATA SSD as it is faster and generally cheaper. However, for my specific Argon SSD expansion board it requires a SATA SSD. If you are purchasing these parts, get the NVME versions. If you already had the parts, double check it doesn't require SATA like mine did.
