Always gets me how they put so much effort into aluminium with thermal breaks yet they are happy for fitters to sink fixings straight through it. Yes this is dependent on the system you use e.g Sapa, technal or in this case korniche but when you work with schuco products it does make you think.

Oh Roger. I watched this and my heart sank. The bit where you talked about membrane under the doors. We had a set of expensive sliding doors installed - costing a five figure sum of money - and they didn’t lap the membrane up that step. We have water ingress. It goes under our screed and finds its way to a hole in the suspended slab and drips into ceiling of basement below. Since doors went in, we had a very good brickie build us some beautiful reclaimed stock brick pier skins on the outside. Gorgeous pointing, best I’ve seen so far. We chose every brick by hand, rummaging through old piles at merchants. The doors are fixed to the INSIDE of the inner block skin, fixed inside the cavity. So we can’t just lift and retrofit a membrane. We discussed this at the time but ploughed on anyway. Thankfully no kitchen or floor finishes yet. I’m wondering if we can resolve this by somehow bonding to the TINY bit of concrete subfloor between screed and door frame then pouring in some kind of waterproof latex. Either that or the whole damned lot is coming out. Am so gutted. We are royally screwed. Sometimes wish we could just have you here for the rest of our build 😥😥😥

Hi Jeff, I have never understood why window manufacturers put a hole in their windows. My girlfriend’s house has these holes, the wind howls through that hole, and although it is at the top of the window, you can feel the draft from six feet away. I made some covers to go over the holes and this has made a massive difference in all the rooms. As they are fitted to the windows you are installing I though you would be the best person to ask what they are supposed to do.

I'm having some Express Bifold sliding doors fitted next week. they are to be flush with the floor and sit in a trench. What do you put under the lower track once its fitted and sitting on packers? I would prefer it to sit on self leveling compound that is exactly horizontal so it spreads the load evenly? Packers seem to be a bodge from an engineering prospective? What do you think?
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 8 месяцев назад
I always put a level bed in and then a piece of damp proof course that goes under the cill and up the back to the floor level. If packers are use the space in between is dry packed with sharp sand and cement so it gives even support. I would then remove the packers and fill the gaps with more dry pack. I only ever view packers as a way of getting the door level.

Hi Roger What is the golden rule for the door threshold is higher than the outdoor floor - suppose indoor and out door - finished floor will have same hight
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 2 года назад
You need that jump up on the dpc. The frame can sit flush and the inner and outer floor levels can be the same but the bottom of the frame is sunk below that level and a bit of dpc comes up the back to the floor level. You need the frame to drain to the outside.

Hi roger:just a quick question my new kornich bifold door arrives in 7 days time could you advise on fixings into a medium density breeze block wall,as I’m a bit worried about using concrete wall fixing screws thanks
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder Год назад
Hi Chris There is no pull out force to talk of so you are looking at sideways force. Concrete screws are best because they don't have an expansion force which can tend blow the edge of the block out. I think by the time you get the foam in there, it starts to firm up but I also like to get a few head fixings in because that is what counters the weight of the doors when they are open. If you are concerned but some metal plates or straps on the side of the frame and run them back to the inner skin. I like to do that if there is not much meat in the external skin.

@SkillBuilder

Can tell you're a builder. Sand & cement under the base is no good as it causes a cold spot and increases condensation on the aluminium, your wedge packers won't pack flat, the diagonal tape method on the corners works in theory only, your fixings in the base will allow water to drain through as you didn't seal the holes and you didn't use a bridging base packer on the bottom of the sashes to sit the glass on which will cause the units to mist up before the guarantee runs out. Other than that, great vid.......

@@SkillBuilder hahaha no! There was no full operation of the doors, I was wait to see how they worked. Is there a way to open them in the middle or do they slide from one side only? Did they glide when the glass was in etc. where in the video do you think this bit is covered? Rest of the video if fantastic by the way, I wish you were based in Aberdeen!

Why do we get worms in the toilet before we use it? Looks like earthworms the ones you see outside in the soil.

Maybe a cracked drain. Is it ground floor?

Might be best talking to a doctor about that.

Yes ground floor. All the pipe/drain work is buried under tiles, concrete, slabs. I do however have a outside garden manhole/inspection chamber. How can I check or what should I do? Next available plumber is Jan 3rd. Thanks.

@@ricos1497 It's a doctor issue if it's after toilet, before toilet it's a plumber issue.

@@ferrworxeinside3985 that's what I thought, but the last plumber I phoned about my constipation said he couldn't see me until 2nd January.

Good install. But. No stabila. No sealant under the black rubber damp proofing. You are just asking for ants to make a lovely home under the door

It was a 20 min video. Why on earth wouldn't you atleast open the door once!! It would take 30 seconds. I'm not sold on Korniche now
