On this episode of the R6 rebuild, I'll be replacing the spark plugs on a 2008 Yamaha YZF-R6 with NGK CR10EK spark plugs and removing the air injection system (smog pumps/AIS) to install black path smog block-off plates. Overall some easy upgrades you can make to the r6.

You shouldn’t put ati-seize on those type of spark plugs as they have a special coating on them find out more info on the internet or read the ngk specifications apart from that, nice job 👍

Sorry for not understanding, but I would like to know the purpose of eliminating that valve before reaching the spark plugs, where you put these two custom black caps.

Its to eliminate the smog pump it has some performance effect but it’s tiny. I main reason in removed it is so it is out of the way when I need to get to coils or spark plugs in the future.

it's only illegal in states that require inspections and in my case if you ever plan on tuning your bike or putting some kind of autotuner on then you have to remove it because it gives false readings on the O2 sensor by injecting extra air into the exhaust. Removing it should also reduce or completely stop backfiring under decel when you cut the throttle.

You can also use the in cr10 EIX as well I have used both and really if you gap them right i couldn’t notice any difference.

What were thoes black plates? And what is it for?

They are called “block off plates” they are for when you remove the Air induction systems (AIS) “smog system” that just recycles air to burn off any excess fuel. The plates cover up the opening on the top of the engine where the system was. Some people say it helps with performance if you going to do a full exhaust system with a tune ….. I just do it so there’s less crap in the way if I need to do valve clearance checks or swap spark plugs lol hope this helps.
