I can hardly get a hand in those tight spaces. I've got one that needs replacing and I'm seriously considering taking it to a stealership.

It is very tight but you can get a ratchet in there.

H0UST0NT3XAS Get it in there where exactly? I can see two of the 5 clearly after removing the center floor panel. How do you get a ratchet on the others. From underneath?

@@tonywillingham8109 from the sides. You will need a variety of ratchet sizes and a extension for the upper outer nut on the passenger side. Those are studs in there so you only need to worry about taking the nuts off. New one will install with new hardware and require a backup which also makes it easier to use a ratchet from the bolt head side.

yes, some 1/4 wobble sockets help but it can be done. Ensure you center the rack or you'll be doing it twice...ask me how I know.

Yes, I just did mine. It was tight with the winch, but not terrible.

Yes. This was the hardest part of the job. The factory setup isn’t bolts. The bolts are attached to the rack (mine is 2016 Polaris Ranger Crew) so you just need to get a socket on the nuts. I broke a bolt off before I realized this. This was easier with a mix of standard and deep sockets.

Make sure hardware connecting your steering shaft to the steering rack is tight. Another thing we would do is pull the boots back on the rack so you can see the rack and have someone move the wheel back and forth and look for excessive play.

Does have some play when I move the wheel back and forth. I guess that’s where it would be coming from.

I went to the docks, bought one of those small Asian kids that comes in the shipping containers. Their small hands and joints that bend in any direction are super helpful. I keep them in the storage box under the back seat for future repairs.

@@H0UST0NT3XAS on my 900 trail the winch plate was 100% in the way. I had to remove it. Space was so tight I ended up removing the entire left front suspension arms and all including the shock. I took the winch out and removed the winch plate entirely and took the entire front plastics off. Just to make it easier to get to the rack. I jacked it up and took the other tire off too freed up the tire rods and freed up the steering column from the top of the rack and then I removed the steering rack. no matter how hard I tried I could not get the new steering rack to go in I couldn't get the bolts to line up at the same time I was trying to get it into the steering column. So I went ahead and removed the entire steering wheel and the steering wheel column disconnecting it from the power steering motor. I removed the power steering motor and completely removed the lower steering column. Then I put the rack in. Then I put the lower steering column back in and lined it up on the rack. Then I put the power steering motor back in and lined it up with the bottom steering column. then I put the upper steering column back in and lined it up with the top of the power steering motor. Then I align the steering rack from the steering column with the steering wheel removed by rotating it all the way to the right then one rotation to the left and marking center because it's a two full turn steering wheel. With center marked I did a tie rod alignment with the steering wheel still off, I reinstalled the suspension and put both tires on and hooked up both tie rods. then I reinstalled the steering wheel making sure it's still lined up with the center mark and steering wheel was straight. Then I did a tie rod alignment with slight toe in. Hell of a job, but drives straight, eps works, and steering is softer than ever.

@@Ryan-hp6xt i guess I should have asked as I assumed you were asking on the ranger. Makes send on the rzr with the back roller and placement of the winch. Definitely had your hands full .. nuts and bolts!
