For those needing to replace just one tail light, the whole bumper doesn't need to be removed. As you see @2:51, removing the screws/bolts from one side, and pulling it away from the body, allows the bumper to droop down enough to access the 10mm bolts to remove the tail light. That will save you from removing and reattaching 4-5 screws/bolts on the opposite side of the bumper.
Yup that's what I did, left the other side of the bumper attached. Also maybe WD-40 the 10mm studs and nuts and let it loosen--mine were rusty and one sheared off. Otherwise exactly like this excellent step-by-step how-to.
THANK YOU!!! I was able to follow your procedure ..... and.... SUCCESS!!!! Mine is a 2004 Honda Accord, which is a very dear car. It only had 70,000 miles on it when my 91 year old (nearly blind) mother gave it to me..... it runs like a new car, now it looks like one too after replacing the tail light assembly.... Your detailed procedural walk thru was the only video that helped...:-D

I just finished this task on my new, used Accord. I replaced the bumper cover last weekend so upset that I had to take it off again. But the worst was those two 10mm nuts that hold the metal bracket in place and secure to the tail light. Mine were very rusted and I could only get one off. The hammer was the clutch performer this evening. That tail light was going in no matter what. Have to drive to work in the morning. Tail light replacement shouldn’t be this difficult.😤

Great video, definitely helped a lot and was able to get my new piece in without much fuss and with minimal tools. I want to note for those that encounter this: I have a '05 Accord Hybrid, and the pins holding the bumper cover from the bottom appear to be a 2-piece fastener. After cracking my first one, I examined it with some detail on how it worked. I took the flat side of my hammer and brought some force straight down from the top of the other pin, which worked and preserved for re-fasten.
Thank you very much, great video! I had no idea how involved this was just to replace the bulb, but I do feel confident enough after watching your demonstration that I can do it.
+So-So Hinkle Thanks for watching. If any of our viewers needs to make this repair, we carry the auto repair part shown in this video on our website. Here is a link to them www.1aauto.com/1A/TailLights/Honda/Accord?RU-vid&CTA+Comment&K8kfqND7TBg
@@1AAuto I agree with Neil above -- THANK YOU for showing us the way!! It is so much appreciated that I will now add your website to my laptop & attempt to purchase items that will be necessary down the road. In fact, I'll be on your website later this week -- To start looking at the items I'll need for my wife's 2003 Jeep Wrangler X 6cyl.. Again, you guys have absolutely EARNED some of my family's business due to providing such clear examples/instructions regarding this viddy -- I own a 2004 Accord EX Sdn 4cyl 5sp manual As you may already be aware -- The EX for this model Accord honestly does stand for EXCELLENT!! I love my Bullet (She is Silver), hence her nickname :)
@Schlag96 Hi, we do explain in the video where these bolts are and how to remove them from your vehicle. We also show you how to remove the taillight bulb, in case it burns out.
ALWAYS spray the body pins with a silicone lubricant and let it soak in. Repeat, and work them around. They slide right out. Then clean them up and spray again before reinstalling them. And replace those 330°F filament bulbs with LED bulbs. The factory bulbs cook the sockets until they crumble. The socket will thank you later, and they are 3x brighter.
Very helpful video. I plan on replacing one of my taillights pretty soon when the new one arrives. My question to you is, I have the coupe and not the sedan, do you know if all the steps are the same only difference being the shape/size of the taillight?
This process can also be accomplished without taking the bumper off. Follow the directions for the inside trunk but instead of taking the bumper off simply use the 10MM socket and your arm easily can reach the bolts behind the bumper for disassembly and reassembly.
The bumper covers those 10mm bolts. There is no access to the bracket if the bumper isn't moved out of the way. But, if you only have one taillight to remove, then yes, the whole bumper doesn't need to be removed. Just as you see @2:51, removing the screws/bolts from one side allows the bumper to droop down enough to access the 10mm bolts.
We currently do not have an auto repair video on this particular repair. We'll keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future.
Im changing my tail lights in my 2003 accord ex 4door from factory ones to black housing ones. Do you have another video that shoes how to replace the other piece of the tail light assembly that is connected to the trunk lid?
Thank you for checking our our videos! While we don't have a video for this yet we are always happy when our loyal viewers make a suggestion. We will definitely keep this in mind for the future. Thank you again, and have a great day! 1AAuto.com 888-844-3393
I see where you show how to change the light bulb in the right side but the left side seems to be slightly different...an extra wire- thats brown. Can you show how to reconnect if accidentally removed?
Hi James, we currently do not have an auto repair video on this particular model year. However, you should be able to access the bolts that attach the taillight to the body of the car from inside of the trunk. We carry replacement taillights on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
