VideoJoe is getting ready to install some new Schlage privacy lever door handles & he needs to look at the door latch face plate trim pieces. Most Schlage door handle units come with the rectangular face plates attached on the new door latches even the Schlage privacy lever door handles. Now take a look at your existing doors at the door latch area. Do they have a rectangular door latch face plate or are they round? Are all doors created equal? No. Some doors come with a mortised out are at the face plate for a rectangular style door latch face plate to fit in there but not all doors. Some doors come with a round door latch face plate. So if your new Schlage privacy lever door handle comes with the rectangular face plate on the door latch does that mean you will have to mortise out the side of the door to fit the door latch into place? Ah...in the old days yes you would have to do that & let me say that VideoJoe has done a lot of doors that way in the past, ahem. We don't live in the old days anymore though! Did you know that you can change out the new door latches from a rectangular style face plate trim piece to round easy & quickly? Yes you can. Look in the new door package for the Schlage privacy lever door handle & you will notice they give you the round door latch face plate trim pieces. Of course that means you will need to remove the rectangular door latch face trim pieces so you can then snap on the round door latch trim face plates. Presto. I'll wager you didn't even know you could do this or how easy it could be to remove the rectangular door latch face plates to then snap on the round ones. Take a look at your doors & now you can install the door latches which ever way you need.
