Awesome video. Only had to watch less than 2 minutes to get it. Instead of screwing the drive in I just removed the old hard drive and 'stuck' the ssd in the one pin. I don't expect that computer to ever move so, it should be good. I'm wondering if I can get a tray to fit inside the plastic tray and be more secure. :P The cloned drive came right up when I turned the computer on. Thanks.
I ordered this tray off Amazon and it worked perfectly. I mounted the Crucial ssd and snapped everything in place. Very nice. smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B016498CK0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hi! Is there a spare sata and power connector if one wanted to keep the original HDD as a data drive alongside the new SSD? Thanks! Btw, great video - skimmed through several videos to look for an ACTUAL SSD install on these type of machines!
On my 7020 SFF, there are 3 SATA connectors on the motherboard, BUT only 2 power connectors from the PSU! Is that normal? Is it possible that the PSU was taken from a different model?
@@silvanigra mine has the same. I saw a video of a guy buying some kind of power cable extension socket, cutting one end off, and soldering it onto one of the existing power cables after cutting it! Bit of a faff. Even after doing this, my 7020 doesn't have space for sliding in the ssd anywhere if I want to keep the 3.5" drive. The only place I can put it is against the PSU, which I don't think is safe. All in all, a crap machine in terms of upgradability. What is the point of the third sata connector if you cannot add another hard drive?
@@redshift3639 I did some research and the power issue is easily solved with a splitter cable, it connects to one of the existing power connectors and provides power for two other drives. I also placed the SSD between the case and the PSU. Some temperature monitoring software (Speccy, I think), shows approx. 50 Celsius, which is a lot for SSD, but I opened the case and touched it - it actually felt cold, I don't think the temp was reported correctly. I wouldn't worry about placing it in contact with the PSU.
@@silvanigra I'm going to flog it and go back a generation. The 7010 DT is a much nicer form factor. Not too big like the MT, and not too small like the SFF. Just big enough to have some upgrade options, and spare power and sata ports too. My main machine is currently an optiplex 390 DT, and I think the 7010 is pretty similar. Shame dell got rid of the DT form factor after 7010 series! Such a nice form!
@@silvanigra Will something like this work? Or do I need one with the orange cable for the 2.5" drives? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Molex-to-Dual-SATA-Converter-Y-Power-Splitter-Cable-Lead-Adapter-2-Way-4-15-Pin/254525571298
