How to add an SSD to a Dell Optiplex 3020 SFF without removing the HDD or CD Drive 

Thanks for a brilliant yet simple to follow video guide! I to have just purchased one of these Dells that only came with a 500GB HDD so I will be looking to update that to at least 2TB for media/data and add the SSD to when Windows off just as you did. BUT with the added bonus of keeping the dvd drive! Thanks for the guide and for naming the components that we will need. Now I’m going to check out your other videos.

Many thanks had old oplex dell pc not quite the same but everything came into place using just the items you showed. had flash drive with win 10 on it change original old ssd drive changed to a Samsung SSD 870 EVO, 500 GB, Form Factor 2.5", Intelligent Turbo Write, Magician 6 Software, Black. Waiting on a ASUS GT730-SL-2GD5-BRK GeForce GT 730 2GB GDDR5 low profile graphics card for silent HTPC build includes LP brackets which dosnt need extra power and will run all the games i play. again many thanks was up and running in less than an hour.

EXCELLENT video!! thanks! simpler for me is to expand HDs with a Docking Station or USB-multi-expander extension. Its just extra storage, right? Best thing I did to my 7040ssf is adding a M.2! easy peasy 🙂keep up the great work!!

This was really useful video - thank you. I got a 3020 SFF thrown in with a 22” Dell monitor for £40 so I replaced the standard i-3 with an i5-4590, got a 480 GB SSD and I cloned the existing Win10 320 GB HDD onto the SDD and then replaced the HDD with a spare 1TB HDD and using a splitter cable and a BEYIMEI PCIE SATA Card as shown in the video I was able to keep all 3 drives functional. The only thing I would say is next time I might not clone the HDD on to the SDD but instead do a clean Win10 install. Next is to find a cheap, low profile graphics card for it.

Hi there! I have the exact same computer, and im doing this without the pci adaptor as i dont need the optical drive. But when i plug the Y SATA cable none of the hdd or sdd will power, and the pc wont recongnize them. Does the Y cable that you use in the video has a special name or quality? Dell optiplex SFF 3020. Good day. Hopefully your still active, just wanted to ask, what kind of MoBo alternative I can use to replace my stack Tigris SF MB. Someone recommended me a z97 motherboard. Its a LGA 1150 socket, but im not quite sure about the screw holes. So I would i appreciate it if you can make a cideo about it. Lastly, is there any other slim PSU i can use to replace the stack PSU? Hoping for your kind response. Thank you.

Be careful not to touch bare hand the contact terminsls of ram,ssd,etc to prevent voltsge spike,computet has 1.5v on some components like memory,etc use gloves all the time when working with computer.

I’ll be doing this for 9020 and it looks like the mb 0V62H has an additional sata slot. So no pci-e needed I guess?

Just FYI: That molded sata power connector is susceptible to melting and catching fire. I've had 2 catch fire after extended use. Don't believe me? Google "molded sata connector, fire" and click images. Only use hard plastic adapters with individual crimped and inserted ends. NEVER USE MOLDED SATA CONNECTORS. It may take some time, but molded sata connectors can (and will) melt and catch fire after extended use. Especially when powering an optical drive!

Oh no Ive been waiting more than a month for a SSD and HD for this exact same computer does this video basically mean I'm gonna now have to wait again for cables before I can add them to the PC? This has been the hardest hobby to understand in my entire life it's literally the most frustrating thing I've ever tried to do is get fallout 3, 4 and NV as well as Elder Scrolls 3, 4 and 5 to work. First personal computer since I was a kid so everything's confusing I also have an Optiplex GX260 FOR PRE-2003 games but need my fallout working

I just purchased this Dell model. I upgrade the HDD to SSD drive as the primary or system drive but unfortunately, Windows 10 is not able to detect the SSD with 512Gb capacity. I don't know the problem. what should I do? Thanks

Maybe use some adhesive on SSD drive so it will stick on mechanical drive.

noob here. How would the process differ on a 7020 SFF which has 3 SATA ports? Really want to add a boot SSD but keep the HDD and DVD drives.

Hello bro Normally psu bist light blink everytime you plug the computer. Right. But now , i plug no sign of light anymore. (Dell 3060 sff same psu) Bro how do know the power supply is dead. I try to test my psu, only psu motherboard and processor are intact. My psu is BIST BUTTON FREE. I remove the 4pin 8pin connector from the motherboard , then plug the psu. The Bist light glow for 3 second, i put back again, it won't glow. No sign of light, I try also psu test using paper clip method jamper black and green the psu bist light glow and the fan is spinning Is my motherboard is dead or my psu?

To really work it is necessary to change the power supply and the cabinet, if possible for a "gamer" one. And add one more cooler on the side

dell 3020 has 1 sata 3 and 1 sata 2. You should not plug the cam cord (sata 2) for the ssd.

well i dont need my cd dvd drive. so i will just unplug those two and plug them into my sdd
