So if I wanted to uninstall the old method, which I picked #2 at the time, do I have to uninstall all my games beforehand? Or will the uninstall take out the games as well?

@@luked4587 this video did the first time. then I got black screen when trying to boot. I've uninstalled and re-installed and now just black screen :/

@@perrymason805 same with me, when I did it a few days ago it was fine- now it doesn't work despite multiple re-installs.

Does it say the thing about web helper and sniper and keep timing out ? It'll just be an error with an update. Standby for a patch or workaround mate. I use batocera on a spare mini PC so I can play with my partner. I used to run it on windows with retrobat set to launch on startup. So that's always an option if you get fedup.

So if your saying the steam version of batocera being able to see your steam deck steam files (like ones downloaded on the regular steam os) I don’t know of a way to do that unfortunately.. MAYBE if the steam games on the regular steam os side of things where installed to another drive or partition other than the main one but even then I’m not sure I will look into that!

I think you maybe able to create links, that is how I play games from my ehd. It should be the same,atleast I hope so

I’ve heard the steam flatpak is working again in Batocera V40 I haven’t tried it yet though. If it does work I would recommend Flatpak because it’s less of a hassle!

Did you install the “stable version” the makers of the addon changed which number to click on during install!

@@KevsBatoceraBuilds Yes sir, I made sure not to make any mistake LOL, maybe it has something to do with flatpak being installed as I saw on other comments, but i’m unsure of how to uninstall it.

Go into the flatpak application and find steam and click uninstall! Although I don’t think that removes all existence of it 😭 *Also triple check the install options instead of following what I do in the video read the options you have on the installer screen and see if the install option has moved it could be 1-2-3-4-5 lol it could be any of the options whichever one says stable*

It sure will! I find it easier to set up & customize batocera on my pc and then load it on my steam deck when everything is all set up.

You need to go to the settings Properties\Compatibility and check the compatibility box Then a couple of packages from steam will be downloaded and then all the games will be available for installation

The flatpak method is way easier and takes up WAY less space 😭 but as far as I know there isn’t any updates on if or when it’s getting fixed! And I haven’t had much exposure to ChimeraOS but I will check it out!

What is the issue with the flatpak version? For me it is installed but the program won't load when I go go open it

@@luked4587 I don’t know the exact reason it doesn’t work I just know it hasn’t worked in a while. Currently the method in this video is the only way to get steam on Batocera

@@luked4587 if your planning on installing steam via the method in this video make sure to go in and uninstall the flatpak

@KevsBatoceraBuilds have you been able to get controller to work in steam using this method? None of my controller input works, even though its clear the steam application has detected a controller.

Go in to the “flatpak” application and uninstall steam then install it the way I did in the video! If that doesn’t work let me know

I’m actually glad you asked I’m going to flash a v39 tonight and test it people on Reddit are saying that this method will work on 39 but I can’t confirm yet

Hey ! I can confirm the install method I use in this video WILL work with v39! Good luck and Happy Gaming !!!! Side note I don’t recommend upgrading to v39 if you don’t absolutely need it!

It works with both you just have to experiment with different proton builds!

I would reinstall just triple check the install option your clicking the makers of this add on have changed it. Look for an installation choice that says stable or latest.

@@omniiomega if your already using it I’m sure your fine but it was causing a lot of issue when people where upgrading to booting to black screens and other issues like some of the “unsupported” addons didn’t work. For me I updated a machine to 39 and my Nintendo switch emulators stopped functioning properly

When you install the game on steam did you click to add the shortcuts when it asked? And have you tried updating your gameslist ?

Are you on PC or Steam Deck ? If your on pc or laptop tapping ALT+F4 should force close any application

Yes you have to remove it. You go to the file manager then you go to applications then go to flatpak. From there you click uninstall beside the steam application. ***Some users are experiencing issues with using this method after having flatpak installed.***

I have an issue on one of my builds as well where it isn’t starting the game if I try starting it from the home screen but it will start after big picture mode opens, is this the case for you? I haven’t found a fix for it yet but it doesn’t happen with every install just sometimes 🤔

@@KevsBatoceraBuilds It started working after a couple try's. The issue i have now is after i back out of a game my controls are all messed up. I have to reboot batocera for my controls to work properly.

What exactly does it do ? Also using alt tab you can make sure steam has closed 100%

​@@KevsBatoceraBuildsI use the start select buttons to exit. Some of the controls still work but when I push b it asks me to configure my controls again. When I configure it does the same thing after configuring. I use a 4 player ipac in xinput mode.

Is the build on an sd card or the internal storage ?

@@MyChannel-vm6dw yea just put the sd card (you may need an adapter/dongle) into the pc and boot Batocera. The steam deck build will work on pc and laptop and vise versa !

I would uninstall then reinstall first have you tried that I think it helped another person ! Also make sure you have enough storage space.

I changed the format of my drive to Ext4 instead of NTFS and I'm currently seeing if it fixes the issue rn, so far seems positive, however this was a tricky process as Ext4 drives cannot be natively read or written on using Windows, if you have another Linux machine however I'm sure it'd probably be allright

@KevsBatoceraBuilds Yup, that fixed the issue, a bit of a pain tho just cause of not being able to access the part of the drive partitioned as ext4 through windows

@Bennybiscuits2 Glad to know there is a fix! And I have another Linux PC so it’s a none issue for me but I 100% understand! Any build I do for someone else I try and reformat it so they can access the drive via windows!

Go back into xterm and type the same “curl-L” command and once your back on the install screen go down to uninstall

@@KevsBatoceraBuilds thank you. Just got a beelink mini s as my introduction to mini pcs and batocera. It installs the apps but when I open steam or any other apps it black screens for a few seconds then backs out to the games list any tips?

Hey for me I had that happen once and I uninstalled and reinstalled and it worked! It just sucks how long the installation takes 🥲😭

Double check that your connected to the internet in Batocera settings. Sometimes my machine randomly disconnects. I’m going to check to make sure the terminal entry still works now

Are you on steam deck or pc ? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? This happened to me once before on another pc!

if you're using a nvidia gpu, it has to download the driver on first start in background and that can take a while.

@zipeee1 I've solved the issue, it wasn't working when my drive was formatted as ntfs, however re-formatting to ext4 fixed this

Now this is a new one for me I haven’t heard of the issue I will look into it! What kinda drive do you have batocera on? Do you have another laptop or pc you can test the drive on to see if it has the same issue?

​@@KevsBatoceraBuilds I have a 2015 MacBook Pro 15" it has an i7 4870hq and I can't test the drive because it proprietary to this specific MacBook Edit: the drive is a weird nvme looking drive but the connector is super weird

@@KevsBatoceraBuilds Yes but it takes like 5 to 10 minutes to boot and when I exit games it reboots

@@KevsBatoceraBuilds Me too.. right at the start it says "steam ES file location not avaliable" or something like that. That stays on screen for a few seconds and then the whole install process works as normal. The process completes as normal, I get the final completed loading screen etc. Arch Container and Steam installed in Batocera as normal, but yeah as I mention none of the applications load. When I run an error check command to see why the applications don't load, it says there are no system files for the app.. Bizarre - my only assumption is they've delete the files from the server or something but who knows. Like I mentioned, I did it a week ago and it was working fine. Same V38 of batocera!

@luked4587 that is weird! So far I have 2 machines that had steam already installed and they both still open and work just fine. Now I’m trying on a 3rd machine to do a fresh install I hope it still working! If it is we will try and troubleshoot why yours isn’t!

I see you had some issues with the Flatpak version you did uninstall that first right?? Also I saw you had some controller issues they updated some stuff and it says in v39 of batocera something is wrong with Bluetooth controllers with steam!

@@KevsBatoceraBuilds Yeah, I was having controller issues so I did a fresh install of batocera and Steam using this method to try and fix that, but now steam won't even open as I detiald above. No idea why the controller issues were occurring as I was on V38. But yeah, issue at the moment is I'm not able to install Steam at all using the method in this video. It's bizarre. We're you able to get it to work with a fresh install today?
