Thank you your guidance was perfect! We replaced an exciting ceiling fan installed by the electrician and this video was easy and step by step. We had a red wire due to double switch but it was an easy look up to learn to secure it to the blue wire and then secure the two black wires on their own. Thank you again!
Thank you soo much for the video. Very good instructional vid step by step. Never opened the instructions. One thing that wasn't shown or explained was the extra red wire from ceiling. After looking at other videos. I figuredout what it was. Capped it off didn't use. Only for a double switch situation. One for fan other switch for the light.
Thank you for your reply to my Q. Purpose of rubber ring on bottom of fan motor. I discarded the rubber ring and there is no vibration, the fan is operating very quietly...will monitor fan operation, and, if need be will make necessary adjustment. I DO NOT NOT RECOMMEND REMOVING RUBBER RING! My concern was the safety factor. AGAIN, your video is excellent!
AWESOME! Thanks for this video. This isn't my first ceiling fan but this was by far my best installation only because of your video thank you so much God bless you guys.
A beautiful and very helpful video, thank you. unfortunately, I had to search other videos to figure out what to do with the fourth unsheilded wire (the safety cable, I guess) which was not mentioned in your video. Thanks again for a great video.
Thanks for watching. Yes, the unshielded cable is the safety cable. We only have access to the US versions of the fan, but in Canada a safety cable is required.
Thanks for watching. The rubber ring helps pad the connection point where the blade brackets attach to the motor so that there isn't a metal on metal connection. Helps to stop noise that may be caused by vibration when the fan is operating.
Hello, I am trying to replace a simple lightbulb with this ceiling fan but there is only 2 wires coming out form my electrical box. How can I wire this ceiling? Please help :(
We have to star by saying that we are not licensed electricians and if you have wiring questions that are different than what is covered in the video, you should consult with a licensed electrician. That being said, if there are 2 wires, they should be a power wire (red or black) and a neutral wire (white). If that is the case, you will just connect the fan's black and blue wires to the house power wire (red or black) and the fan's white wire to the house white wire. The green wires are not required to be connected to anything. They are there for grounding purposes to help the fan avoid a power surge. Also, you will need to make sure that the outlet box is marked "acceptable for fan support". Most outlet boxes that support just a simple light kit are not strong enough for a ceiling fan.
I installed mine, perfectly. However, I can only turn it on by pulling the string, the switch from the wall will not work. Any ideas why that might be?
If you wired the fan as directed in the video, the switch wire would not be connected. The video covers standard installation. We are not licensed electricians, so we would would have to suggest contacting a licensed electrician to see why the switch is not working. In general, a switch is typically connected to a red wire in the ceiling. If the red wire is not connected to the fan's black or blue wire, the switch will not control anything. If you have a red wire in the ceiling, and it is a switch wire, you have a couple of options: 1. Cap the black house wire and connect the fan's black and blue wires to the red wire in the ceiling. This would allow you to turn the fan and light on/off using the switch. You could also connect the fan's black wire to the house black wire and the fan's blue wire to the red ceiling wire which would allow you to turn the light on/off with the switch. Again, we are not licensed electricians and you should consult with a licensed electrician for any wiring issues.
We would suggest making sure all of the wiring is connected correctly. If the issue isn't resolved after that, we would suggest calling Hampton Bay customer service. Their team is really helpful in troubleshooting and resolving issues over the phone. Their number is 1-855-434-2678.
Blue & Black to Black from ceiling. Fan comes on at switch 1 on wall. Light not on. Pull chain will turn it on. Switch 2 will not turn light on or off!! What did I wire wrong??
Let me start by saying that I'm not a licensed electrician and you should always consult with a licensed electrician regarding wiring questions. That being said, if you have 2 switches and they are both routed to the ceiling, you need to connect the fan black wire to one switch and the fan blue wire to the other switch wire. The fan's black wire is to power the fan and the blue wire powers the light. Sometimes, if there are 2 switches on the wall, one is for the ceiling and one is for an outlet.
I have 4 wires from many house - white, black, bare copper, and red. I have a 2-switch wall switch. I assume the red wire is for the light switch. There is nothing in the manual about what to do I if you have 4 wires. What do I do with the red wire?
Let me start by saying **I am not a licensed electrician** and any wiring questions should be handled by a licensed electrician. In my experience, you are right that the red wire is connected to a wall switch. The manual covers basic installation. Some homes do not have a switch wire, but for those that do, there are a couple of options. 1. You can wire the fan's blue and black wire to the house power wire (black) and simply cap off the red wire. This would place all control in the pull chains of the fan and the switch would do nothing. 2. You can connect the fan's black wire to the house black wire and the fan's blue wire to the house red wire. This would allow you to control just the light with the wall switch and the fan speed would be controlled with the pull chain. or 3. You can cap the house black wire and connect the fan's black and blue wires to the house red wire. This would allow you to turn the fan and light on/off at the same time using the wall switch. If the fan is on medium and the light is on when the switch is turned off, the next time the switch is turned on, the fan would resume at medium speed with the light on. Hope this helps!
