How to install the Hyper 212 Black Edition - AM4 socket - Ryzen CPU

This is my second annual and updated tutorial on how to install the hyper 212 black edition from Cooler Master. Just purchased a new hyper 212 from Best Buy in February of 2021 and I've noticed 2 differences from the ones I bought in 2020. The first is positive...They've included a fan splitter so you can add a 2nd fan to the heat-sink. The second isn't so positive in my opinion...They've stopped using the plastic clips that attach the fans to the heat-sink and have replaced them with a set of wire clips....so now attaching the fan/fans to the heat-sink is a little more challenging especially if your new to pc building or if this will be your first attempt to install the hyper 212. Even with that said, it's more of a small inconvenience than a negative. This cooler will keep your CPU nice and cool! LONG LIVE THE HYPER 212 FROM COOLER MASTER!

While I understood the manual of the cooling fan, this video makes it much clearer. Specially the part where I had to remove the two dummy braces on my new motherboard in order to get those 4 holes where the back plate goes. Thanks.

Thanks so much for this Scott! I tried to install the Hyper 212 when I first built my computer a few days ago but couldn't get it to fit after following the poor instructions that were included with it, so I ended up just using the stock cooler, but I wasn't so impressed with the temperatures I was getting. After following this video today I managed to fit it and am already seeing much better temperatures on my Ryzen 5 3600. Thanks again :)

I have installed several 212s over the years, but never on an AM4, and not in 6-8 years. Your vid ticked all the right boxes and my black edition went onto my new 5800X with no issues. My fan has enough clearance to add another 16GB of RAM in the future, and the 212BE cools the 5800X JUST ENOUGH to keep the CPU under 75 C while running Cinebench R20 (way more load than this workstation PC is likely to see day to day). So my MSI coreliquid 360r had the sediment build-up issue for the recall, but they won't honor mine, so I go out and buy a hyper 212 black, open the box, and go "aw hell no" and look who has an amazing installation guide. my old friend Scott. thanks again buddy, great video !!! running 3900xt under 67 c at 115-watt test load. good work.

I just replaced my stock intel CPU fan with the V2 version of this CPU cooler/heatsink. It was easy. It is quieter than the Intel CPU cooler. Even when the speed increases to around 900 to 1000 it is still quieter than the Intel fan. I really don't hear much of an increase in fan sound when it spins up to 900 rpm. The V2 was easy to install. Especially since it has the plastic clips.

They must have kept the plastic fan clips on the LED Turbo [twin fan] version as that is what was included on my one, those metal ones look a pain! You could install the fans before you put the mobo back in the case, that makes it a lot easier.

Unlike the top result for this config, you actually go through EVERY step and don't skip anything. Thanks for a great tutorial! One thing I don't think you hit that tripped me up: the straight AMD brackets that go directly on the heat sink can very easily be flipped around and installed the wrong way, changing the orientation of the screws.

Followed this guide step by step and got to the point where i had to install the heat sync over the brackets but the screws won’t actually go into hold. so for now i’m lost there and have no fan for the CPU. i’ve been at it for 7 hours. will try again tomorrow.

I'm trying to install this fan on a NZXT B550 board. It has very little clearance (less than a millimeter) when all 4 memory slots are used. Is there a way to do this differently? Can I safely take out the 4 rubber pads on the back of the fan? Is there a different cooler that would be a better fit?

I'm installing it on a LG1150 on a Asus maximus hero VI with 2 x 8gb Corsair Vengence. The single fan is pretty close to the RAM. Does it matter which side the fan is on ?

If possible I would definitely try and put the fan on the right side of the heatsink to push air toward the rear of your case. You can put a fan on the left side only, but it won't be as effective as a "pull" fan.....

The splitter was included in with the last hyper 212 I bought. But you can always get one on amazon for cheap

No...not that I can see. If you mean rotating the heatsink 90 degrees so the fan is at the bottom pushing up?

the hyper 212 is 158mm tall and should fit into most mid-towers. Double check your case to see that max height for cpu coolers. The tower in this video is the NZXT H510 which has a max cooler height of 165mm.

My case the p350x form phanteks has the max mm of 160 and the cpu is 158 should I get it or is it too close?

My advice would be to go to pcpartpicker.com and enter your components and see if other users have the exact same build before pulling the trigger....good luck to you!
