Hey Josh I just wanna thank you for your video. My mom's place in Delaware caught fire and I came to repair it from Colorado. I'm a bartender and have pretty much no carpentry skills. Your videos have really helped me get this done. Honestly without your help I would have had to ductape something. I'm doing this alone so your videos are perfect for me. Thanks a lot brother.
Sorry to hear about your mom‘s place. I’m glad you were able to get everything fixed! I know it’s a lot when it comes to learning a new skill but now you will know for the next time. Thanks for watching!
Im about to embark on my detached garage based on your videos about siding and facia. Wish me luck! Thank you for all the detailed and thorough information!
FINALLY! THANK YOU!! I have been searching high and low about finishing the top row of siding under a soffit with a bird box. I originally installed my F channel the wrong way and had a difficult time finding the correct way / trim.
Hey brother, I can't thank you enough for this information. Although i sure wish i found your channel before asking some 'handy' friends for help...lol. We're first time DIYers on an old poorly built - and by old poorly built i mean damn near collapsed - house in eastern Canada. Thanks to the knowledge you've shared, my fiance and I will be finishing the rest of the siding, fascia and soffit on our own. Cheers from Newfoundland
JUST IN TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great Videos !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything I DID NOT KNOW, NOW, I KNOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep posting BROTHER !!!!!!!!
These are outstanding videos! Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise and knowledge. I’ve been doing woodworking for many years (mostly home projects from my garage shop) and was always interested in learning about vinyl siding. My house could use a renovation to this end and after watching, it seems like a project I could handle. May sound crazy but what seems to be the biggest challenge is contending with scaffolding and that whole element. Wondering what it would cost to rent and how long it would take one person to do a two story house. Probably a job that’s a bit too much for me.
Awesome video. Never done siding before and this video series gave me the confidence to dive right in. Question is,......Is there a simple way to determine roof pitch on an existing structure? I'm going to be siding a detached garage that is in serious need of TLC
Josh, your modular scaffolding platform rocks and looks like a great cost effective option compared to renting a vertical lift. What kind of Scaffolding and wood plank material do you use at 15:04? I could not find them at your Amazon store. Thank you.
These videos have been Super helpful!!! Really thorough and completely understandable. Step by step. I'm still working on my 10 x 20 workshop and have never used vinyl or aluminum fascia but with these videos it is really coming out nice! Thank you very much. I know everyone appreciates these as mush as me.
So helpful thank you for putting out this content. I’m a carpenter and just started doing siding about a month ago, and this video helped me to show some tips and tricks that I will now use almost daily!
So if it all is nailed to be able to slide what stops a person From using silicone on the joints so Those pieces don't get any water behind it from blowing wind not to the building I'm just talking about Siliconing the overlap.
How did you do over the top of the window, is there a special channel that goes over the top of the window or just the butal tape covers the Tyvek and on top of the window frame? Just curious, I know if I'm wondering so are a few others....So I'll ask .

Awesome tutorials! I am building a 16 x 20 foot shed, and am at the point of starting the soffets and siding. My question is in regard to doors and windows. I got the part where you used undersill trim beneath the window, but what about the sides and top of the window; does the siding just butt against it? What about around the door; do I use J channel? Thank you!
You do not put anything at the sides in the tops of the window other than J channel if it is not a new constructed window. But new construction windows have the J channel built around them already. The door is just J channel yes. You are welcome!. Good luck on your project.
I have a quick question, is there a standard way to cut siding to start your courses so that your staggered look is uniform? I will be siding a 24 foot wall with no windows or cutouts for electrical etc. It is the main wall that can be seen from the road.
I’m siding a house that has cedar shingles in hey cut the sills place is in rough shape owner doesn’t have a ton of money got a quote for 33k but honking of running strapping up and down he doesn’t want to strip the house even thought that’s the best option any ideas
Probably the best video I've come across for siding installation instruction. Thank you! Do you have any instruction on installing vinyl siding over clapboard? From what I understand I can keep my clapboard, which is in good shape, and put a layer of foam insulation over it before going through the normal process of installing the vinyl siding.
Man, im sorry i havent been able to keep up with your videos since the deck built.. i will catch up this weekend though , im finallyhave off sat and sunday.. i hope your channel grows . Your content is awesome. Love your videos. Helps me a lot since im in construction too.. i will smash the like button!!! Thank you!!
Trust me I understand that life gets busy. I’m glad you are finally finding some time to enjoy some RU-vid. The channel is growing. Hope everything is going well with you. Thanks for smashing the like button!!
Easiest way to find your angle is to measure your siding size and use a square to make a mark at that size on the panel below then measure over to the Jay from mark . You should always know your siding size anyway for an up and over or any other situation where you might have to measure to make your siding match up
Great video! Thanks. Q: It appears that the vertical joint where outside corner meets the bird box, there is no J, just an unsealed joint. Am I missing something? Should it be caulked?
These are great videos and I wish I had found them sooner! I do have a question about the J channel and undersill trim combined to finish the last piece. Is it necessary to have both the j channel and undersill together, or can it be finished with just the undersill? Reason I ask is because before watching this video I didn't know you could do it that way and assumed I just needed undersill to finish it out lol so that is what I ordered. But now I'm wondering if I should order more j channel
Great video. I did a lot of fast forwarding but didn’t see anything about how a cutoff piece butts to another. I’m guessing you snip off about an inch of the nailing tab.
I'm adding aluminum facia to my gable that has vinyl siding attached already. Can I just slide the bottom of the aluminum facia in between the facia board and the J channel at the top of the siding?
Good Day! Is there anything special that needs to be done for siding on the sides of a window and above a window? I'd also like advice for siding around a door and above a door as well. Thank you so much!
only question is about the electric meter box, because the glass globe of the meter sticks out so I am assuming I use underscore channel around the perimeter of the meter box, correct?
I’m currently doing windows and siding on the house about to get to the siding part and ordering all the parts I need. With the new construction windows with the integrated j-channel, do you need to add anything to the sides and top of the window or is it just the undersill on the bottom?
what's the best way to stagger the seams going across? I don't like the look of stair steps when you simply take the remainder of last row and use it to start the next row.
How do I start the first row of siding if two walls meet but the one wall has to start about 3 inches higher. I either have to cut the top or the bottom off. If I cut the bottom I won't have a starter strip.
Consider investing into sturdy steel ladders and extendable planks. I noticed that you still use scaffolding when you could use some tall step ladders with an extendable plank to walk across. My lumberyard has been selling them like hot cakes. They save so much time setting up and taking down and are multi-purpose.
