How to Install Windows Movie Maker Classic on Windows 11- SEE DESCRIPTION FOR NEW DOWNLOAD LINK! 

I used this new link and it downloaded but when I was opening it, I get a pop up that says "The App you're trying to install isn't a Microsoft-verified app" and a button that says "Get app from store". What do I do?

@@cwtek1 how do i get it without windows live essentials with only the exe and necesarry thing in and the location for the files because i dont have administator so pls do it

Microsoft confused the issue a bit, because this new version was originally called Live Movie Maker, but then some time later they dropped the word Live when referring to the movie maker wrapped in Live Essentials.

It is normal to get an error message during the install but it normally does still install. If you are sure it hasn't installed then I can only assume your system is corrupt and I would recommend getting someone to look over your computer.

As the video says you will get an error when installing on some systems it will look like its not installed but in most cases it has installed and works perfectly well, so a search for movie maker on your start menu, just click the start button then type on your keyboard movie and it should show up.

All I have installed is the defective Windows Movie Maker which now drops and cant recognise new data. Do you think I should delete that first to allow another download to get in? I am reluctant to do that and lose all its data unless its the only way forward. When I get to the stage in your procedure where you click what you want to install from Windows Essentials there are no boxes to click and a notice says you already have it installed. @@cwtek1

@@cwtek1 You did a fine job on this vid. Just posted my first WIN 11 / Movie Maker effort. One problem though, if you watch it you'll see that the screen proportions don't match (there's black borders north and south in the actual video.) I've searched for some kind of configuration file to set things aright -- but no luck, (Have a look: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-caFOqw6AnWs.html ) Keep up the fine work!

Thanks for your feedback, I have not not heard of anyone else having this particular problem, you could try copying the data from your memory card onto the hard drive and see if Movie Maker will read it from there. Also see if you can play the videos that are on your memory card, they maybe in a format that your computer does not have a codec installed that will read these files. If you cannot play these files then you could try installing the K-Lite Codec Pack which may help you can download it from here codecguide.com/

By repeatedly trying I did manage to create a video that plays normally, consisting of five clips. That plays normally as things used to. Initially it would only copy four of the five clips but I kept on trying . Before this problem occurred I was able to make about a dozen multi clip videos that went on to RU-vid quite normally. Then clips that went in initially dropped out randomly then it wouldnt recognise any on a card. I have tried to download the codec pack you mentioned but that won't download! Help!@@cwtek1

The solution to this problem has now been found luckily! The problem was in my computers USB input path. My computer had to to be reset to as it left the factory condition to clear it. Now windows Movie Maker works fine once again after I reinstalled it as per your info. Thank you.

@@cwtek1 do you have any idea why it says my file may be incompatible with Windows movie maker or it may be corrupted when I try and open it. I've got it on a USB from Windows movie maker on my old Windows xp laptop

Try restarting you PC then remove the windows live app from programs and features, restart again and try reinstalling.

I am sure there was two with Windows 7 one was included with Windows Live 2011 and the other was with Windows Live 2012, I am sure this is the 2012 version not sure if 2011 will work with Windows 11.

I understand the MSWMM file is the project file it does not contain the video itself, just data for edit points etc, Windows Movie Maker 12 can only open Project Files created in Movie Maker 6 (Windows Vista) and Above, if its not opening you will need to import the original video file into Movie Maker and make your edits again. If anyone else reading this has any other solutions then please feel free to post.

Try and see if you can find the movie maker in your start menu, it will often say its not installed correctly but you often find it has installed!

Yes it does.

a mswmm file is a project file for Windows Movie Maker, you would need to load it up in Windows Movie Maker then Save it as a WMV file then us some thing like adobe express to convert from a wmv to mp4. See adobes website here its free to convert www.adobe.com/express/feature/video/convert/wmv-to-mp4

Just tried it on my computer again running Windows 11 22H2 (latest version as of Nov 2022) and it works fine, it did not download IDM, just installed Movie Maker and Photo Gallery, if you had to download IDM then it sounds like you have malware on your computer, please get it checked out.

The reason I used (always use) IDM is that whey I tried to download the file as instructed, I ended up with a file that wouldn't open with anything / the computer diidn recognize it it.

@@mikenyny755 I think there must be an issue with your computer, I downloaded the file without IDM (as I do not have it) and it installed as per the video.

You do get an error when installing but it should still work ok.

The installation stops after showing this error. I've tried a variety of solutions and nothing is working. Kindly help!

If you got an error message when installing you may find that it installed anyway, its normal to get an error message!

@@cwtek1 i just figured it out, all i did was install all of the windows essentials programs which was recommended.
