That is gorgeous! I admire your wood working abilities, always have! Good tip on making a template and using painters tape when caulking will be a game changer for me! 🙌🏽
With dark wood like walnut caulking really isn't necessary when you get a good fit with your slab. And since seasonal wood movement is a thing it isn't advisable anyway since the movement will fuck up your caulking. Use caulk when you have a light material like white or grey particle board, or something your are going to paint, since it'll hide that shadow line in between your pieces. With dark wood your shadow line is already hardly visible.
Thanks. Skip planing just means you put the material through the planer to take down just the high spots. The wood was pretty flat already so I didn’t need to take out any twists or anything.
Remember that a thickness planer will only give a uniform thickness, but if the wood is twisted or cupped it wont solve that problem. You can have equal thickness but that doesnt guarantee flat. Chris used skip planing here because he didnt have any twists
Love the template ! Is the length of these strips you use relative to size eg.. 12’ long would you still use … looks like you used 4 18-24” strips on the back ? Or would you use 4 for any length ? Or is it irrelevant?
