I was NASM certified and had two different interviews and in one the interviewer was telling me about how he got started cleaning equipment and then he was able to move on from that to a different position until years later he was able to open his own business. The problem was that as he's telling me this he's making it sound like In order to be passionate about training you had to go through the same process he went through to get where he was. I sensed that he had a bit of an attitude and at one point thought that it wouldn't be a career for me. The interview was a little heated and at one point he had me do a make pretend session to see how I would approach a new client and explain an overhead squat assessment. I did everything correctly but after driving home I was so turned off by the way he came off that I called him and said thank you but I'm moving on. Another GYM I HAD INTERVIEWED AT THE MANAGER Tought that I wasn't motivated enough to be a trainer. NASM is an excellent certification but in the real world of looking for work as a trainer people have no idea about how you feel about fitness and if they would just give you an opportunity they would understand that the individual really wants to be there and learn. If I got certified again I would like to have my own business and not have to deal with these big box gyms. I also feel like you have to look a certain way in order for them to hire you. Another GYM I was lucky enough to get an opportunity to work the circuit department. Setting up machines for clients with about 8 in the circuit. Months later new trainers are coming in and they are getting personal trainer jobs meanwhile the manager just has me working the circuit area. I even had a client request I train him and his wife but the manager wouldn't allow me. I finally said thats it. I gave my two weeks and left on good terms. I didn't really have good experiences looking for entry level work as a trainer. Maybe it wasn't my time don't know.

@@ryancreecy9105 I will look into that. I realize it's challenging but it is possible. Nothing better in life than doing something you love for a career.

@@incrediblez394 it really is I have been studying and working on getting my certification through nasum for a while here but I've also been semi training on my own but not as much given I am uncertified and everything but I have been doing all my stuff mainly independently when I do train that is and my main goal in the end is for me to be independent always because basically businesses are only going to work with you but so much and there's always that ceiling you'll hit but when you do it independently the ceiling never stops

@@ryancreecy9105 correct. One of the things i need to work on is programming. It's my weakness. Anyone can put a program together but deciding when to progress and regress is very important. Also, progressive overload is key to continually see changes. Again, need to work on this to become more knowledgeable and more confident. We will see. Gonna purchase the Nasm 7th edition book.
