This video is for new sugar glider owners to see how the introduction process should go! If you have more than 2 gliders that need to be introduced, you will repeat this process with each connection. (A-B get introduced to each other, B-C get introduced separately, and A-C get introduced separately as well, until all matches are getting along and can be introduced as a group!)
If you have ANY questions on the compatibility of your gliders regarding age, sex, or additional factors, feel free to give us a call! We're here to help 713-446-4415
Below is some general information to keep in mind with pairing your suggies:
*Gliders who are 4 months or younger typically get along well with other gliders 4 months or under (babies love babies)
*Sugar Glider maturity age is about 5-6 months old. If you are not wanting your gliders to breed, your males should get neutered before this age or before they are housed together with females. 2 males who grew up together, not neutered, are usually fine as long as there are NO FEMALES present. If you do have females in your group, or if you will be introducing a male who has not grown up with your other gliders, then you must neuter your male(s). Intact males are more territorial and more aggressive. They don't typically pair up well unless the pair will be a breeding pair.
*If you are picking joeys that you intend to breed, try to get your female about 1-2 months older. Males mature quicker than females so if they are growing up together, he will be ready to mate (and usually start trying) before she will be receptive.
*Once your gliders are introduced, keep them in a fresh cage, clean and neutral from anybody's scent. Clean wheel, toys, pouches, etc. Leave them alone for a few days (no handling!!) as they acclimate to each other and their new environment. Keep a close eye on interactions and separate if you notice any fighting. If you do have to separate the gliders, give them a few days to themselves and begin the introduction process from the top. Take things slow and try to make them as comfortable as possible.

I would like to know if you have any suggestions on ways that I can help my two sugar babies Elf and Jovie become more acclimated with me. They trust me as they don’t bite and fuss at me like when I first got them. I’m able to interact when we have tent time. Their just not at that point where I could trust them to stay with me or come back to me if one of them got away. Maybe it’s just more time that is needed, but if there are other things you could suggest I would appreciate it! I’m very curious as silly as this may sound but, how is it possible to get new sugar bears get them acclimated to you enough and then get them acclimated to the sugar bears you have and within a 2-3 month age range?? Thank you!

Did all the steps for introducing 2 males that are neuter to my female. Everything was fine until they were in the cage together. The one boy is fine with her, however the other was chasing her and biting her tail. Of course I separated them. Any suggestions?

OK I have two neutered males and I am trying to introduce a female. She is a little bit smaller than them and only a few months younger than them but I am not having any luck I’ve tried introduction separately I have tried them together I have tried placing a Bunny info to society Suther I have even gone as far as putting one bonding pouch inside a larger bonding pouch the female and one and the two neutered males in another they still continue to crab and just seemed very agitated.

Sorry this is a little long but I would appreciate an answer😅 I have had gliders for a long time. wanted to add to my colony of 2 females both were 4 years old, so I rescued a male and female both 1 1/2 years old. I introduce them the same way you just showed, the boy glider did great and got along but the girl would attack my glider every time we got to the face-to-face part :/ its been 7 months and I have tried to introduce them again and again but it's just not working out. should I give up and just keep them in groups of two like I have been or should I keep trying?
@danielleg5201
@danielleg5201 3 года назад
Not all females will get together, and it's difficult when you already have an established adult pair. It's just a fact of life. If you want a colony, the easiest is to introduce when all are young, but you cannot expect an established pair to allow another adult in. It simply doesn't work out each time. We have no safe operation in which to spay females, so some are just territorial and will be jealous of other females. Also, males neutered after 5 to 6 months, may already be dominant when neutered, and will be difficult with any new coming adults as well. When males are neutered past the early stages of life, they may not get the memo and still want to mate with a female, even though nothing can come of it. He will consider all males a threat to his mate, as well as any female. He will protect her against strange gliders. I sometimes retire former breeding gliders to pet homes. I make the new home well aware that they may always need their own cage and they may not accept another glider, unless one of them passes and they get lonely.

I’m in need of some serious help! I got my “Bubba” when he was just 5 weeks old. He was so sweet and loving. He crabbed a bit but loved being out and running around. He has recently discovered BITING. And it’s not like he’s doing it in a defensive manner. I was holding him last night he walked down from my shoulder to my hand gave my fingers a sniff and bit. The night before he did the same thing only this time he barely bit me at all and then bit me a bit harder seconds later, as if he were “trying” my consistency lol. I might add he’s probably 2 1/2 months old now. He isn’t neutered and temporarily in a smaller cage only until his much much larger cage is fixed. But he’s been in this smaller cage since I’ve had him and I’m not sure what he was in when he was with his momma. But the store I got him from had him in a cage a bit bigger than mine but with 6 other gliders because I bought him the same day the exotic pet store received him. I feel like it’s my fault because I didn’t take advantage of bonding with him when I first got him, mainly because I wanted him to get used to his surroundings and to be honest I was a bit intimidated by the crabbing. Any suggestions? I recently bought a bonding pouch he HATES it. I want to get him a friend but I can’t have two gliders that hate me.

Hello! Your glider is still very young and you can certainly develop a better relationship with him! Getting him neutered and introduced to a friend is very important for his wellbeing. Although it may seem daunting to get another glider while still working with your first one, having a companion will often help calm your glider and benefit your relationship moving forward! These guys are not meant to be solitary animals. Please call us to discuss details about bonding with your glider, getting him a friend, and how to go through the process smoothly.

I have two colonies of 3, one has two neutered males and a female. The other colony is two females and one neutered male. I’ve been doing pouch swaps every 3 days and I’ve done a few cage swaps. I’m unsure if I intro all three with the other three? I’ve had this second trip since May 2019, just this month I witnessed both colonies communicating with each other, and not the aggressive “I’m gonna get you through the bars” communication. I take it that’s a good sign, just wondering where to go from here.
@Thepetglider
@Thepetglider 4 года назад
Hi Brittany! When introducing multiple gliders, you're going to do these exact same steps for EACH interaction. Start with 1 glider from colony A. Introduce her 1 by 1 to all 3 gliders in colony B (this may take many tries before all 3 gliders are accepting of her!) Do not allow the gliders to mingle in the same cage until each pairing has gone smoothly! Then you will do the same process with your second glider from colony A. She must be introduced 1 by 1 to all 3 gliders in colony B before she can join the new cage as well. If any 1 introduction does not going well, it will be unsafe for you to leave the gliders in the same cage. For 3 gliders meeting 3 other gliders, you will have a total of 9 different combos to introduce! This is quite a lengthy process, and in some cases it will not be possible. It's a big goal that you have before you, so remember to take it slowly and be patient with everybody!

We adopted 2 pairs and wanted the pairs to colonize. But one of them just won’t stop attacking now she won’t even stop attacking the sugar from her pair that we adopted her with. We are keeping her alone but don’t want her to be alone. We give her extra attention so she knows we love her but she has really hurt the glider from her pair biting his ears and his forehead and a glider from the other pair scratch and bite her face. Do you have any advice? Should I buy another sugar and see if she likes that new one? I’m just afraid she will scare the new one and attack it 😢.

Hi! I am a newer glider mom - my standard female turned 4mo last week and I am wanting to get her a female friend. I spend a lot of time with her, take her with me in her pouch, and hand feed her often. I wouldn't be able to get her a friend until January and that would put her around 5 and a half months - the place I get them from only offers them at 3 months - is this too big of an age gap? I really want to get her a companion just because life is becoming busier and I don't want her to experience loneliness. I would love some feedback - thank you! I love yall's videos by the way - beautiful babies!
@Thepetglider

5 1/2 months can work with 3 months. Make sure you get her friend as soon as possible! And if it's a male make sure that place neuters them! Ask for their vet papers. Many small breeders are incorrect on sexing of sugar gliders. She definitely does need a friend sooner than later. When you get her companion in January, monitor them closely for a while to make sure she doesn't bully the smaller one.

I've had my new glider a little over a week and I've been swapping pouches back and forth and keeping them in separate cages about 6 inches apart. I just tried the first introduction today and it did not go well at all (they were in a neutral space, two females) 😔. At first site of the new glider's tail my established glider grabbed and bit her. I immediately put her back in the cage. Is there another step I can do? or should I just continue swapping pouches for a longer time period?

I was giving all of their supplies and was told that their paperwork had to be dug up and it would be given to me also! Unfortunately they have no stopped answering me calls and msgs! So not only do I not know their linage I also don’t know their ages and such! I’ve only had them 2 weeks and was gonna wait to take them to vet till I had all their info but now I’m worried one of the males are sick! Taking them all to Vet tomo since I also have a colony of joeys I had prior to them! I was wondering if their was Anyway to find out their history if I had some info of who previously owned them! Idk if there is any chance but I thought it would be worth a try! Thanks kindly!

We have two neutered male gliders 3 1/2 yrs old and are considering getting more, what sex would you recommend adding and could we just add one or would we need to get another pair, and could we get a joey?
@Thepetglider
@Thepetglider 4 года назад
Joeys need to be introduced to other joeys so you would not be able to put a baby with your boys. You could get another pair if you'd like to have 2 joeys grow up together and it would be possible to introduce all 4 once they are grown up! Or if you don't necessarily want to get another pair, you can get 1 adult glider and introduce it to your boys. It doesn't really make a difference which sex you pick, since your boys are neutered. We have gliders for sale on our website that you can browse through and give us a call if you see any that stand out to you! Our males would be neutered before we ship so you can choose male or female

"don't handle the gliders for a couple days" My blind glider I adopted would probably die if I didn't pick her up. When I get home from work I chop up a little bit of fruit for her and her sister and I open the cage put the fruit in she'll come out of her pouch after about 30 minutes get on the door and start barking for me to come pet her and pick her up.

Please notice mee. I've been swapping pouches for my two male gliders for 3 days now. One is 9 months old and the other one is 2mos will turn 3 this 27th of August. This morning i tried introducing them to each other (i started with the sniffing of the tails) first try was fine. No vocalization, no aggresion. But i was too afraid the older one might hurt the younger one so i separated them right after a few seconds. Second try was idk if it was fine or not. 'Cus i see my 9month old glider trying to give the little one a bite. It doesn't look so serious it was just as if he was playbiting him. But when my 2month old glider entered the pouch and they were both inside, i heard a crabbing and i assumed it was from the little one so i immediately separated them. I tried again after a couple of hours and idk if it was okay or not cus my older glider was the only one sniffing and my younger one was like running away (i think he was stressed) then my older glider started biting again but there was no crabbing. I just separated them cus my 9month old almost bit my 2month old's face. So i don't think they are getting along. I just wanted to give my 9month old a buddy cus he's been alone for months and also because i decided to separate my 2month old glider from his parents cus im worried about him and his father fighting in the future cus there is only one female. Now idk what to do cus you mentioned age gap matters when introducing. Please give some advicee 😭
@Thepetglider
@Thepetglider 3 года назад
The 2 month old can remain with his parents until he is closer to 5 months old and sexually mature. Depending on how long you've had him apart, he should be accepted back as their baby. He is too young to be introduced with a 9 month old, I would not recommend continuing to try this introduction. Also both your males need to be neutered before they meet another glider. The best thing you can do for the 9month old is get him neutered and get another adult glider who is closer to his age (he is not considered a joey at this point). Please give us a call if you have more questions 713-446-4415

@@Thepetglider thank you so much! I truly appreciate your advice. I've already put my 2mos old glider back to his parents. Was worried at first 'cause i thought he might already have the scent of my 9mos old glider so his parents might not recognize him but good thing they recognized him still. Now for my 9mos, i'm planning on giving him an adult female partner so it would be easier to introduce and so that he can finally have "some-buddy" to get along with 😁

They will mate eventually or right away depending upon their age and bonding speed. I would recommend either getting a neutered boy or getting the boy neutered. He will likely get too big for his britches if you let all that testosterone take over for too long lol
