Love, love, LOVE this video. All the stupid, uneducated folks out there trying to ban the prong collar (and other tools) need to watch this. Bravo, Andy 👏🏻
Andy - I don't think there are any other trainers that make me laugh so much whilst delivering loads of interesting info and great tips at the same time. Love your energy and enthusiasm in all your videos!
Fantastic how you introduce the 'prong' collar, positive association; food reward. And as you frequently emphasize, the dog is receiving mental exercise.
Often times the prong is implemented out of frustration or as a ‘last resort’. Then the dog is immediately punished for a behavior they don’t even know. One of the main reasons this tool is demonized.
just got a prong for my 120lb bullmastiff Red. our walks are getting tight!! and last nighti left it on him for a bit when we got home, he fell asleep with it on, couldnt have cared a bit about it lol dont be afraid to talk to your dog!!!
Clever method! I never saw this method ever. I was thinking to introduce the prong for my pup, as an off switch, and I was surfing on web to make my homework before put it on the dog. I will look forward to your video. Thank you Andy!
How many videos are out there covering activation conditioning the ecollar?! Yet, first ever I’ve seen on the prong! We’ve done the positive association intro, but stopped there. Andy, proving the horizons of our vocation are ever broadening! Brilliant, brother!
Simple. Short. Effective. No Non-sense. It's refreshing to have content like this, that doesn't require an hour of pandering caution's to the ignorant and theoretical monologues. This is all you need on this topic to start successfully. The only thing I think was missing was a quick comment to send pet owners in the right direction if they decide to use this method (as it's optimal), because you acknowledged them. Maybe either an alternative channel (potential cross pollination opportunity?), or mentioning an alternative solution without going into explanation, or a future video targeting the problem (wink wink nudge nudge, but I understand that might not be something you are interested in). Thanks for the video, your work is appreciated! god bless
Greeting from Panamá🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦 ,excellent work , I really liked that way of putting the collar on the dog , good techique , it does not conflict with the dog. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the video. I am also curious if this method wouldn't confuse the dog when used for correcting? I understand what you are training but not sure how to use it without confusion? On switch, then Off switch but he thinks it's on time again??
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼 In my training system, I never use the prong as an off switch, and never use it to punish, so there is never any confusion. I am also very aware of all situations I put my dog in to prevent setting them up for failure and ‘needing correction.’ I will elaborate on this concept in future videos! 🙌🏻
@@AndyKrueger Thank you. I do like that this method improves the reaction time and determination to go after something. Kind of works like an E-collar if done correctly.
@@AndyKrueger Andy! Have you made the video on this concept yet? Really am interested in your style but I've always used corrections and pressure along with rewards so I'd like to learn more from your system. 🙏
Hey Andy, you are one of my favorite dog training channels! I have seen a lot of research that any kind of collar pressure is enough to harm the dogs neck and nerves, how would you convince someone that uses harness only? Thank you
From Argentina. Great video on a topic I couldn't find no where. I can get that brand in my country, however, I can't get e collars right now for importation restrictions. Is it possible to get to such a high standard without an e collar? Another big one. How do you teach NOT taking food from the ground or strangers?
It’s possible if the environment can be properly controlled. If you build your engagement properly and shape the behaviors you want, you’ll never have to teach what you don’t want 👍🏻
Great video! Audio feedback- Get yourself a lav mic brother, the volume was all over the place with you bobbing and weaving in and out, but good energy no doubt.
Is it similar to the e collar in which your using light stimulation with the prong in the beginning but when the dog understands the behavior but decides not to do it, you can go up on the pressure of the prong
@@AndyKrueger Acana is great, my vet said to avoid dog food with peas. Acana has some foods with and with out peas. They cause heart issues. I use the duck and pear or the duck and pumpkin or the beef. No peas in those. The puppy one has peas, sadly. Great content man. Also I use honest foods treats. They have some that are small bits of chicken and salmon.
Trouble with the prong because of carpal tunnel syndrome. But I heard there’s a thing called Katie buckles which really work well with the prong collar and makes it easy to get them on and lock them up
buuummm... So far I have always thought that the use of the prong collar is rather negative. I am very happy to see that someone is using this tool in a positive way. great video thank you
A long time ago I asked that same question to one of my favorite dog trainers. He said, ‘when the dog is ready.’ 😆 Not exactly specific! But very true. Usually somewhere between 6-12 months is an appropriate time BUT, of course totally depends on the dog and trainer 🙏🏼
Great video can u do a video on how to condition a special collar so the dog knows when it’s time to work and put full energy and power, instead of putting full energy and power into everything it would be better to condition a special collar so the dog understands to go nuts
If you are introducing tools the way that you do which I 💯 % agree with then how to do fix a dog from pulling so hard on just a simple loose leash walk with tools?
I don’t love the word ‘fix’. It Implies there is a problem. No problem, dog needs to be taught and motivated how to walk more calmly. I’d develop high food drive and start from there. Reward every check in and everytime the dog is not pulling. This is step 1. Also the situations the dog is put in depending on their skills is everything! You’ve likely tried to progress to much too fast and set the dog up for failure. Scale back and build up to that 👍🏻
What about feeding when you working him I know it’s not a breed that’s predisposed to bloat but for example a German Shepherd that would be a worry feeding him all through the training session even though it’s a little bit out of time I usually feed my guy in the morning and then at night and he hast to be used right after I feed him I have to find a way to either have him throw up the food cause don’t wanna work on the type of scenario on a full stomach with a shepherd any thoughts please when you get a chance if possible I am thinking about getting the mail but I’m not sure I’m 65 and working dogs all my life but I’m not as spry as I used to be I’ve been bitten probably 15 times are usually my fault but sometimes you can young handlers can be careless and they usually hear from me after the carelessness lost part of the thumb doing muzzle training but I always came back but now I wanna do some stuff that is just for my guys even though my guy I always had a dog had to do everything they do it was probably the best friend of all of them however I’m not sure I wanna do sport work because after doing some of the others sport work is great and it is fantastic the dogs are fantastic at it but it’s more like a dance a pre-rehearsed dance where his canine work is more like a bar room brawl and that was the fun part setting up scenarios it was absolutely crazy
can anybody put a link as to were i can buy a genuine herm sprenger prong collar from please. i just had 1 delivered and its a fake. much appreciated. brilliant video andy.

My Tervuren isn’t interested in his food! Used to be around 16 weeks but now 6 months and doesn’t eat much at all! I wonder if it’s because I hand fed him initially to teach him but now he prefers toys but won’t eat from a bowl!
So far you have shown in a very nice video how you trained your Belgian Milan Lahana to grow up. Sir, watching your video has boosted my confidence a lot Please upload a step by step video on how to do ring level training Thanks ( INDIA )🙏⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you for watching 🙏🏼 It wouldn’t be possible to teach complete ring training on RU-vid, but I will continue to make videos and do the best I can 👍🏻 Thanks for watching
I swear when I put the prong collar on my dog he is less stressed. I don't have to force him to calm down. He walks calm and is less aggressive. He saw a cat today and for the first time wasn't trying to go after it without me choking him.
@@AndyKrueger Great vos over here a Breeder wouldn't sell you one of their pups if you use these methods . I've owned Belgians for most of my life...the one thing that's special about a Belgian ...the more you interact the more they learn I've watched your training videos and thoroughly enjoy and find them very smart 👍...prong collars on a Mal it's not necessary as you know they're very smart and where you might use this without inflicting to much pain ..you know some idiot watching this will do serious harm...anyone out there using this method .. really shouldn't own a Belgian ...as clearly you don't understand the breed .
@@jacquicullen8106 I’d love to see videos of you training your dogs! Since you’re so knowledgeable, I’m sure you have at least one video of you training 🤞🏼
