When I have a striped warp like the one you are using, I have the tail come out thru the stripe of the same color as the weft if possible. Also, I am impressed that you have managed to prevent draw in without using a temple!
As someone who almost exclusively works in wool, I love splicing/felting my weft ends together. I let the join fully dry before continuing, so it is a built in reminder to get up and take breaks. Plus, any way that I can avoid sewing is a win in my book haha.
Your videos are so interesting. I hope one day to progress in my weaving but for right now making simple cloth is makes me happy. Really simple crooked cloth.
I usually decide at the loom depending on how visible it is and my mood! If it’s a gift and I am able to splice then that’s what I will do. If I am using something like the 8\2 I usually just tuck it around the selvedge and under as you showed. I enjoy your weaving videos!
Just graduated UNG with a studio art degree specializing in weaving! I was a bit scared to leave my safety net of a classroom and my professor but having your videos at hand makes the transition of graduating and weaving independence feel easier!
THANK YOU!!! Very nice video for a total newbie. Working on first project - mug rugs, and learning that even selvages is a muscle memory thing, and on my Leclerc Dorothy table loom the center of the weave sways down a little. What am I doing wrong? This project is just 100% cotton crochet yarn on a cone...like Peaches and Cream Yarn, both in warp and weft.
Yes! Congrats on your first project! If you are ever getting a “smile” to your fell line as you beat (the centre is lower and the weft yarn is creeping up the sides) it’s generally because of uneven warp tension. It’s possible that your warp threads on the sides are looser than the ones in the middle. I would check the back beam and see if anything is happening there to cause the edge threads to loosen (sometimes uneven packing material, etc).
I wove for about 22” on the loom per dishcloth but they shrank significantly after wet finishing. I’ll measure them and report back 🤣 but the wet finishing transformed the cloth. It’s fabulous.
@@Hindikahaniya8989 mine was a used loom from 1968 so it was less expensive. But new floor looms can be a few thousand dollars. Used looms might be only a few hundred dollars.
