Hi Don thanks for the video. I was recently looking at the wet bowl fuel level specs for this 800 Vulcan and to my surprise it specified 2mm ABOVE the float bowl mating surface. Does this not strike as being odd based on your carburetor know-how? Could this be a misprint or accurate?

There were no after-market pipes yet when I bought my 1996 VN800A back in the day, and I was never happy with the way the stock pipes looked. They sounded ok-ish to me (just), but those weird black discs with the tiny real exhaust pipe sticking out always looked goofy to me. Plus the way the pipes are turned out, that visual detail is really noticeable, even at a glance. Never understood why they designed it that way. Also: Now that I see how the pipe is constructed and how the baffles sit in there, I'm pretty sure my Kawa-dealer was bull$hitting me when I bought the bike. They sold a customized version of the bike with different seat, handle-bars and quite a bit of other details changed to make it look less grandpa-like, so they did do work on the bike before I ever took possession. So I asked them if they could also swap out the pipes while they were at it, but, as mentioned, there were no custom-pipes available for the bike at the time. But the guy told me that they had done "something" to the exhaust to make it sound a bit less muffled. And I don't really see how they could have done that, given the work necessary to even get to the baffles and how you seem to have to destroy the baffles anyway to free them from the pipes. Oh well... I tried to convince myself that the bike sounded a bit different than a stock one, but I suppose that was just me feeding myself a placebo... :D

Hi, Don I have a brigs and Stratton engine on Toro mower. I followed your instructions on checking the carb. Everything was clean. Looking at the spark plug. It's 4 years old, cleaned it with some steel wool. Hope that was okay. I checked the spark plug by dimming the lights like you show in your video. There is a spark! Does it matter how big the spark is? Mine sparks, but looks a little weaker than the sparks on your plugs. I did grounded it to the engine.
@donyboy73

YOU COULD TRY A NEW PLUG, HOWEVER THE SPARK ISN'T THAT STRONG ON THOSE MOWERS

That sounds awesome. I was thinking of doing that to my KZ550. But I am unsure if it would require messing with the jets in the carb or not. To all those out there who hate loud bikes. Start noticing motorcyclists when you are driving in your cars. Stop pulling out in front of us like we're not even there. loud pipes is another tactic we motorcyclists use to be noticed by cars.

I live in a suburban area in Waterloo Iowa on a fairly busy street. Who wants to sit outside in the summertime and listen to motorcycles with no mufflers riding by. I used to ride Goldwings and saw my share of close calls with loud and not so loud bikes being cut off by cars. Having a loud bike is just an excuse to make everyone else's life around it miserable.
@ajs622
@ajs622 6 лет назад
jdretiree I agree that loud pipes don't guarantee you won't be cut off by cars. Some of that is the riders fault like making assumption that he was seen or bad lane placement. I also think you can have a loud bike without being obnoxious with it. There is no need to be rodding on it through town, the rumble at a moderate rpm should be sufficient enough to help you get noticed by cars. Rather than being more like a Prius that you can't hear at all.
