It's a mild day for February and I'm dreaming of getting out in the backcountry, so I have been bing watching youtube videos. Although I am not a fan of light beer I just might use this trick. Thanks!
Was on a trip once and we wrapped our food bags in white wet terrycloth a d hung the in the shade. The evaporation kept the packs cooler... not cold... but it seemed to help.
Note- if you are traveling to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area....cans are a no-go along with glass bottles. But on other trips this is a brilliant idea:-)!
🤣🤣🤣 🍺 🍺 🍺 🍺 🍺 Found your video here looking for the best way to keep food 🥩 as cold as I can in a regular igloo cooler. Camping in Colorado for Thanksgiving so thank you for the advice! My husband will love this idea when I show him your video hahaha 😝 😊
Why, light beer? Because it freezes easier than strong beer? The fact that it turns into ice sooner doesn't mean that it has more room to absorb heat. Take plain water frozen to 99% ice and 1% liquid water. It is nice solid ice @ 0°C. But strong beer that had not yet turned into ice but is @ -4°C is also a hell of a good heat-sink. Think of that.
I love this video but the advice is off. Steak isn't a common source of food poising because microbes can't survive in the meat - as long as you keep it cold until cooking & sear the outside well you'll be fine. Ground meat/chicken is what would work in this application but thawing it properly for cooking is an issue. Maybe plan on eating it on the 2nd or third day as it slowly thaws in the cooler. And freezing beer makes me sad too. But again I love this video. I would freeze some of the water I need for the trip in bottles and use that instead of beer. But awesome video!
