How to Keep Reptiles Warm During Winter 

walmart has $15 fan heaters that have thermostat dials that are very accurate it keeps my reptile room between 74-76 degrees at all times highly recommend

During the winter I put Reflectix roll insulation on my windows in the reptile to help keep the heat in

For all my Reptiles I use a ceramic heater with a thermostat! But I may change over to a Deep Heat Projector from Arcadia for my Crested Gecko!

I recommend portable oil heaters for ambient heating and not killing humidity

This was helpful. I have my baby brb set up with a che, a warm side uth, and a cool side uth, each with it’s own regulator, to help maintain during the coming winter. Thanks for the tip about removing the cool side hide if necessary. So far my little guy has liked the cork log between his hides best. I’m sure things will change over time. I also am keeping my apt at roughly where the reptiles night temps need to be. Drafts from the unheated bathroom worry me though. Anyway, thanks for the video! Towels and robes are good for keeping them warm from my experience, I made my snakes a hide out of my robe pockets and a towel it's also easy to clean and store away for summer it also keeps them distracted for a while, humidity can also provide some warmth, I also usually put a sweater or two over their bedding. Basically I use clothes, my apartment turns on the heat randomly and my windows don't close 100% so I found that clothes makes a great "blanket" for them, warm bottles is also good only downside is that it would have to be frequently changed, I have heating pads for them but still. If they have a full mesh lid I would cover their enclosure at night with a blanket or half of it to block the breeze.

You could also cover the windows in plastic to help with the drafts. I also live in an apartment in Chicago so I have to keep my reptiles in my bedroom where it's the warmest

Thank you for this! I was using a space heater for a bit but it made the air dryer which was frustrating to then try and also maintain the humidity. I think I’m going to switch to a second heat pad on the cool side. My BP does the same thing and will chill in the cool hide more often. Also Bowie’s rainbow color is gorgeous!

Hi Trish. Yes we use enclosed oil filled space heaters. Some of them come with thermostats and timers right on them. I had to get something safe for my birds and they work great for the reptiles too. :) Have a great day!

During the cold months I use the plastic film over my windows in my room and I also use a space heater that has temperature and time control settings for my leopard gecko Piper

Good point! Not sure whether or not it's very common in the states?, here over the pond it is. Central heating, especially for bigger enclosures that rest on the floor, is quite handy. I was lucky enough to get one were I can divide the temps in my living room into 2 areas. Something to look out for when getting a new place as a reptile keeper ;-)

I used to always worry about my BP getting too cold in winter, but we just moved to a newer house from a pretty old one that didn’t have good insulation. My new room stays pretty warm unless I close my vent.

Up here in canada it's gets stupid cold so keeping our pets warm is always a challenge. One thing I do and this is if you have screen tops to your enclosure is to throw a towel on top to trap in the heat. Also a good way to keep humidity up if needed

I am always home I use the space heater everyday its easy

I live in north Idaho and only have wood heat. Our little space heater has been an absolute lifesaver! Most modern space heaters have a safety feature that will automatically turn them off if they’re tipped over, so the chance of a fire being caused by that are much more slim. We also put ours on top of a brick, so it isn’t in contact with the carpet at all. 😁 Great video!

Put you some carpet on the floor and some plastic on the windows

I just bought a ceramic heat bulb to raise the temperature in my 55 gallon corn snake tank. I struggled to keep the ambient temperature in the tank above 70 and I only have a heat pad set to 88 on the hot side. So I'm hoping the ceramic heat light will raise the ambient temperature a little.

Make sure to have a way to regulate your space heaters y’all! I almost overheated my MBK by leaving my space heater unregulated :^( about scared me half to death. There are now thermostats you can get with timers to do so just make sure your space heater is compatible :^)

I have a Herman tortoise and it’s currently 40•F where I am. I was thinking about getting him a heating pad. Is this the best option for him?
