Your videos really helped me. For the first time ever, I have mostly grass (90%) - and I actually pay landscapers but none of their treatments ever did anything. Spectracide, pulling crabgrass by hand (we only have the yellow top in my state) and tenacity did the trick. Next year, I'll use a season long preemergent but honestly, the grass is thick enough to choke out most weeds. I also milorganite and another organic fertilizer. Very pleased. Beginner friendly, affordable advice that works!
in late summer like u said i be going to Walmart looking for deals. I be using the Walmart app to scan stuff because often they isn't labeled for clearance. You gives great advise. Great channel. Let's Go!!!
You are so right, I used a similar weed spray, it's been 10 days and the clover is finally turning yellow and having some die off. It's taking so long because we are still in the low 60s and little to no sun. When it's 80º and sunny you can sometimes see the weeds dying off the same day. Bro your lawn is looking 🔥 you gotta show us how you are striping it so hard.
Man your yard is looking great! At first I thought you had a background picture on the screen lol Is that the sta Green max thats popping your lawn? Thanks for all the great information.
Thank you. It's kind of hard to suggest the spreader setting because every spreader is different. The back of the product bag usually has all the settings for different spreader brands.
Very helpful video. I'm a fairly new homeowner and am working on things, learning as I go. I keep seeing and hearing 1/4 to 1/2 inch of water. How long do you have the sprinkler on to get the right amount of water?
It depends on what kind of sprinkler you have and the distances you're trying to reach. The one I have in the backyard takes about 45mins to get 1/4 inch of water down on the lawn. The one in my front yard takes about 25mins. Thank you for watching and congratulations on the new home 🏡 🙏🏾
Great grass!""Thank you for all the valuable information will start watching your channel. I live in Florida and have Bahia grass which is pretty durable but very prone to weeds. I am controlling those menacing weeds with Specticide
Wow, lawn looking good, nothing wrong being cheap😂 it’s money in the bank, thx again for the detailed video 👍👍 Question, can that container be used agin with spectracide weed stop.
Yes I actually meant to mention that you can refill the container again but you'll have to mix the concentrate formula and water yourself or buy a refill bottle. I'll definitely find a cheaper alternative or a cheaper way 🤣🤣
I like to watch your lawn videos, they are brief, well created and to the point. However my lawn is warm season St Augustine so this Spectracide weed stop is not applicable for my lawn in Tampa Fl. The yellow patch is a good indicator. The Spectracide herbicides we get in our box stores have a purple patch that are safe on St Aug lawns.
Thank you. I appreciate your support. I know St Augustine and centipede grass type use the purple bottle Spectracide. I mentioned that in the video. I definitely don't want the St. augustine and centipede folks to mess up their beautiful lawns 🤦🏾♂️
Great video. I do have a question off subject. My current HOC is 2” I use Twin City Seed Tuff Turf for sun and shade. From 7am to about 3pm the sun is hitting my lawn. I’ve applied some Hydretain already and can’t tell if two spots in my lawn have gone dormant or the sun burned it. Should I raise my HOC ? I have this issue every summer the front of the lawn is fully exposed and the back isn’t.
Yes, raising the HOC is best when temperatures start to rise. I do that every season. I start out in early spring at 2.75 and go up to 3.75 as temperatures rise. This helps the roots and soil from getting too hot so the grass doesn't burn out. Especially if you can't water the lawn to cool it down from high temps
@@LawnAmateur Will do. When the temps are low in early spring and early fall I can take it down to 1.5” and have it flourish 😭. I’ll continue to keep an eye on it while I water and apply my micronutrients. I’ll log this and keep you updated.
Grass is lookin good bro! I've got some serious red thread issues... Weeds aren't bad other than some clover in a couple small spots (and poa... that's a fall thing now). It's been crazy wet and humid on Long Island this spring, hence the fungus. Have you dealt with it much where you are?
How often are you applying Sta-Green Max fertilizer this year? I'm using Sta-Green Natural All Purpose monthly this year and switching to Max next year.
Quick question on using the spreader. You put product down in a vertical application, then a horizontal application. Since you are essentially making two passes over your lawn, do you set the spreader to the full recommended setting on the bag, or do you lower the setting in half since you will be going over the same area twice, just from different directions. Seems like if you use the full bag settings rate you would be using double the product and perhaps use too much on the lawn. And do you do this with all fertilizers or just specific ones? Thank so much!
Man I was just wondering if I needed to buy new weed stop in the hose end version. I left it in the shed over winter and was wondering if it would be ok or just a waste of time? Whatcha think boss?
If you have mostly weeds, in the burning hot summer I guess you cannot reseed immediately if you spray the weed killer? I mean the grass is not able to grow from seed in the middle of the summer, right? I live in South East AL.
Sta Green fertilizer multi nutrients 8-0-2. I also go over it in this video. If you want to check it out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xAAz5xgGjFk.html
Bruuuh!!! I'm dealing with Canadian bluegrass in my backyard now. It's a fescue lawn and I almost didn't see, because it kind of blends in with my grass. I say this, only to tell you I have four day germination with the Pennington rebel tall fescue seeds. Seedlings aren't above ground just yet, but I moved some soil and peat around an It's growing. I don't know if this is the reason, but when I water, I flood the areas that I seed. I was always told not to flood. I feel it's kind of like pre-germing the seeds.🤷🏾♂️idk, but it seems to work for me.
To prevent water puddling and grass seed displacement, it is advisable to address water retention issues in hydrophobic soils. The application of a wetting agent using a sprayer, followed by thorough watering, can assist in mitigating problems such as water runoff and crusting. In soils primarily composed of clay, the use of granular Gypsum is recommended to improve soil structure and fertility, particularly in areas with extensive crop production or significant weathering. Gypsum can also enhance sodic soils by replacing sodium with calcium, an essential macronutrient for promoting healthy turfgrass growth. It is worth noting that about half of the nutrients absorbed by plants are comprised of calcium and nitrogen.
Probably now since your coming up on a month based on the vids I’ve watched in this page just be careful on the post emergent /weed killer literally now recovering from accidently bleaching the lawn after a reseed butttt atleast for now it’s coming back and no weeds for now
Yea I've used tenacity. I like it more for when I'm seeding. As a weed killer it takes too long to work and I don't like how it turns the grass white. But it does work
@@LawnAmateur nope, I killed all those centipedes in my grass, question is Saint Augustine anything like that Constantine you know with Keanu Reeves? 🤣😁
Teacher? I got my hand up🙋🏾♂️, will there be a problem if I put the orange top down blanket spray early, and then later the temperature happens to rise above 85 ?
I live in eastern Washington and have broad vine i can’t get rid of it because of my weedy neighbors yard is full of it . I even tried a lawn service.. this vine is impossible too kill off worse than my crab grass
🤦🏾♂️. I hate that I had a similar issue. I ended up taking a hard shovel and chopping up the vines that were growing into my yard breaking the roots and sprayed the broken roots and I haven't had a problem since 😊
@@LawnAmateur mine are all over my lawn in front of my house.. I had them in the backyard but pulled them without getting the roots they haven’t grown back in two years it’s weed free. The neighbor has them growing in his grass and when they bloom his lawn looks like a flower garden it makes me so mad.. I know if you don’t get the root it keeps coming back so it’s very strange I was able to get rid of the vine in the backyard.. I think if you keep pulling them as far down as you can it weakens the weed and it will not grow back. It was the same in my front garden bed. I just kept pulling what i could and now it’s almost free of the vine .. good luck with yours ..
@@LawnAmateur I new subscribe to your channel today. My question I have if I wanted to convert my burmuda lawn into Tall fecus. What's the easiest way of doing so tiller, round up grass killer?? Or what you recommend
@markrob9752 First, round up the yard with glysophate to kill it off. You may need multiple applications because bermuda grass is tough to get rid of. Next, you can till the yard to break up soil to plant the new fescue grass seed. Also, where are you located to make sure you can get fescue grass type?
Informative , video thanks ! Now hear this : Jesus loves you , Jesus The Christ desires for All to have an true relationship with Him. Romans 10: 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Darryl, great topics for your videos. I have learned much from them. The video and audio quality is excellent. I appreciate the time and effort you put in to producing them. However, I'd like to offer some constructive feedback on something that I find distracting. You repeat certain words and phrases. Examples include "so", "you guys", and "like I said". I am not saying they should not be used at all, but, in my opinion, they are overused. For example, in one recent video I counted almost 90 times you say "you guys". You even ended one sentence with "you guys" and then started the next sentence with "you guys". In my opinion, this is unnecessary. I encourage you to try to avoid unnecessary repetition like that. Besides eliminating the distraction, reducing the repetition should help keep the videos more concise. I realize your videos are more of a vlog format versus a scripted video, but if you have time, you might consider writing out what you want to say and/or practice what you want to say to avoid overusing words.
I respect your feedback, but I'll continue on this way. It's authentic and genuine, not scripted. Just a man working in the yard. Thank you for your feedback 👌🏾
Im glad he’s not accepting offers right now, you seem to be distracted in general aside from his choice of vernacular him addressing his mixed audience as ‘you guys’ isnt a distraction maybe for you but I’ve been watching him for years and your criticism isn’t/wasn’t needed just the same as my response to you 90 times cmon man smh

The best time to grow seed is fall and spring. You can fix spots in the summer but you'll need a lot of water because of the heat. The seed will dry out quickly
